Bote Lighthouse — Attraction in Catanduanes

When we arrived there it was 1 pm, wayyy to hot to climb towards Bato lighthouse, so we rented (300 pesos) a hut on the beautiful Sakahon beach, water was turqoise and deep blue, some bancas on the beach, the whole area was breathing relaxation, with a cool drink and this view, I could sit here for ever but after a few hours we had to hike up towards the lighthouse, we had a very friendly guide who lead the way up over steep paths and through dark forrests, you really have to watch your step hiking there it is not a "walk in the park" but after 30 min we arrived at the lighthouse and a lighthouse have stairs.. and more stairs.. and even more.. and the moment you think I go back there is the top.. A magnificent view of the surroundings, it was worth the climb although I did not felt really safe up there, the railing is low, the wind is hard, and being a technical enigneer myself i saw some rusted welds that did not contain a lot of iron anymore, some maintenance would be quite nice I think.

But I survived it all and was happy I climbed...

Bote Lighthouse is a historical lighthouse located in Bato, Catanduanes.

It's about 10km from Virac. To get to the area, tour guide is mandatory, the fee is 220 pesos and an additional 25 pesos entrance fee.

From the beach, you will hike 20-45 minutes (depending on fitness). Take note that the hike can be challenging to less than fit individuals since it's a continuous ascent. There are resting areas where you can take a breather.

When you get to the top, you will be rewarded with amazing views of the Pacific ocean. Its stunning and will take your breath away.

One of my most favorite attractions in Catanduanes! You have to hike first (so get your lungs ready!). Upon reaching the lighthouse itself, you’ll surely enjoy a striking view of the islands, from the waves running to the shore to the beautiful greens brought by the surrounding forest. This is a place you shouldn’t miss when visiting Catanduanes!

PS. While it provides a magnificent view, I wish the lighthouse itself gets proper maintenance. The railings were rusty and damaged, so extra care...
