Officially, it is the Monastery of the Holy Eucharist. But it is also known as the Our Lady of Lindogon Shrine. To the locals and tourists alike, it is simply the Simala Shrine, a Roman Catholic pilgrimage church dedicated to the Virgin Mary in Sibonga, Simala, Cebu. It is a very beautiful church not only in Cebu but in my opinion, the world. We have seen a lot of churches in our travels and for a church that isn't a Cathedral or a Basilica, the Simala Shrine ranks as one of my favorite in terms of beauty. Built in honor of the Virgin Mary in 1998 by the Marian Monks of Eucharistic Adoration from Pampanga, after the miraculous healing of many locals afflicted with Dengue, the Shrine has become a pilgrimage site for devotees. Indeed, panels after panels after panels after panel after panel, etc of written testimonials from devotees whose prayers were answered or whose afflictions were cured line the walls of the church's museum. Miracles experienced by devotees that are too many to count. Any devotees wanting to offer a petition or a prayer or a supplication may do so by using any of the available forms and envelopes and submitting it to the any of the counters manned by a monk or a nun. Each submitted form is gladly and officially accepted for a small fee. The Shrine is a work in progress. The latest addition, a towering crown in honor of Mama Mary was built by Friar Joseph Magtoto and was added in 2020. Other works in progress are visible as well. It is hard to imagine that in this somewhat isolated town of Simala is this fantastic Shrine to Virgin Mary. A church that I think compares very very well to some of the best we've seen...
Read moreThis place is closed due to covid. I am writing this review just because we went all our way to the church and it was closed. There was not a single review on google and not even mentioned anywhere if it is open or closed. But fortunately we could worship Virgin Mary, as her idol was kept outside the chruch for the people to pray. The colorful candles to pray were also available when we visited. Souvenirs were available too. But you can't visit the church ....and enjoy its marvelous vibe! As said this is a miraculous church... And i have heard from my friends who visited this place...that their wishes have been granted...for which they visited again to thank Virgin Mary.
There is no entry fee... Candles cost 35 pesos each Each color has a different meaning. U can light the candle from other candles already lit there.
You can write your wish on a paper and pen ( already available there) without cost...and put it in a wish box ( pamisa )
If u wish to go just for praying u can go there.. But if u are first timers and want to visit the church...its not open.. I hope this review will help others like me who are searching on google for their visit to shimala😄
And you can easily find on other websites how to reach there.. We were lucky enough to get a UV ride from colon. You can just find them on the way near E mall.....they just ask u if u r going to south cebu..
The driver offered us 200 pesos each (4 people) to simala. But we bargained for 120 pesos each 😄
I really wish if the driver could have told us that the chruch is actually closed but maybe he wouldn't have known if we were there to just worship or go for the...
