Really recommend this night tour in Coron - you can book via travel agency (but sometimes they go to some magrove park that is more commercialised), but it is better to message King Fisher Park in facebook, and ask for instructions.
It is about 20-30mins from town, and located in a nature reserve with no lights. Around 6PM, we started seeing the fireflies in one of the trees along the shores. There is also a walkway above the water where you can visit other trees with fireflies. After that, there will be boatmen who will row to get you to the magrove forests where you can see more fireflies and also see bioluminiscent planktons on the water. And as bonus, you see the sky lit up with hundreds of stars on that citylight-less kind of night. Was really a magical experience.
Will recommend that you message Kingfisher Park directly in facebook, and arrange for your own transportation via tricyle.
(If it is lowtide, you might be asked to walk alonside the mangrove for a more close up experience).
Overall, very fun activity in Coron and really well-preserved nature reserve. They do not use speedboat (unlike the more commercialised firefly tour in town), so you can really be up close with nature and the planktons
Shout out to Sir JJ for being very accommodative, responsive in my questions, and overall providing a very memorable firely tour. Will recommend...
Read moreAbsolutely brilliant! Didnt book a tour but rented a scooter in town and took ourselves. Messaged them on facebook the day before to get info as i couldnt find any and they answered all my questions right away. Got there before dark and we were first ones there, nice man on the gate said to go for a walk along the board walk to see fireflies and we would do kayaking later on. It was so beautiful we have never seen anything like that before! Slowly tuktuk groups started to arrive (triple the price for the ride and apparently food but whatever they say theres no food there and we learnt they were taking guests back to a restaurant in town!) there was a guy who was very knowledgeable about the fireflies and then we all went on to the beach for kayaking. Around 20 people there now and we were at the back and they guy from the gate remembered we were there way early and said we were to go first which was so nice! Plankton was amazing, kayaks have a guide so they paddle not you and it was all just so incredible. On the way back if you put your hands in the water it glows. We were out on the water around 30 mins and my boyf and i kept putting our hands in the water (they encourage you to) and our guide stopped for a little so we could play the asked if it was ok for him to continue or did we want to stay longer!! So sweet and friendly and i couldnt...
Read moreDo not come here thinking you will go birding or so!!
First it says 6am opening, we got here just shy of 6.30, got met by the guard that said 8 but was talking to a guy on his radio that later came to let us in. Not like we needed a guide or so which we said but still it was a no to be let in and therefore lost the early morning possibility. Then he said 300 entrance and that we could have a guide for 500 kayaking tour, we opt out of that. Sat down the whole morning and saw 1 bird for as few minutes then it left due to the guys speaking super loud and playing music and games on their phones, smoking on the beach and tossing it in the sea infront of guests while wearing a ranger t shirt… I work in the tourist industry in Indonesia and I can definitely say that Philippines have never impressed and same with its people, not customer oriented, terrible service, no respect and no...
