What to expect in the place.
There are days where there are so many people but you are lucky if you go there on less crowded days. We went there on a Tuesday and Wednesday. I think we were the only visitors. We were able to tour the house quietly and learn about the tobacco history of Cauayan. I learned that Cauayan was formerly called Calanusian and that its folks are originally River people. I lived close to the Sipat River so imagining nipa hut settlements there gave me a taste of the past. There are only a few huts but since we were the lone visitors for two days, we were able to sit comfortably. The tour guide is very friendly! The drive back and forth the city is long so it is wise to bring your own food and share a lot of stories with the people you go there with.

Read moreAround 10km (20-min) drive from Lady of the Pillar church, retrophiles and outdoorsy folks will certainly appreciate the city's first eco tourism park. Entrance fee is only 20/head. Apart from historical tour and sightseeing, other activities they offer include picnics, horseback riding, wall climbing, zipline, and biking. Unfortunately some of them weren't available when we visited. Just hoping they'll be open to use next time we visit the Ideal City...
