House of Dakay is an absolute treasure in Batanes that deserves a 5/5! This iconic Ivatan stone house is not only a historical landmark but also a testament to the resilience and culture of the local community. It’s still owned by the same family, making it a unique and personal experience. There were originally five houses, but only House of Dakay remains as the others gave way to new infrastructure. The architecture is impressive, showcasing traditional building techniques that have stood the test of time. The tour guides are knowledgeable and share fascinating stories about the history and significance of the house.

The house of dakay is the oldest stone houses that is still in existence in Ivana, Batanes. While entering the house, tourists are expected to take of their shoes in respect for the place and the owner of the house. While inside the house, you will be able to see the details of about the creation of the house, its owner and some artistic paintings. What's amazing about this house is it is still of very good condition despite the years that have gone by. One more thing, farming attires used by Ivatans are also ready for rentals which will also give you that feeling of being one with the locals.

The House of Dakay is a heritage house preserved and maintained to show visitors and the locals alike what Ivatan stone houses looked like years ago. The walls are made of big stones from land and sea. Some have corals in them. The house is small- no partitions. Has two windows facing inland. Flooring is made of wood. I tried on a "vacul" - a woman's headress while we were there 😆 Note: There is a toilet at the back of the stone house
