A couple of times this quarter of the year, I had visited the Bakhawan Ecopark. From the New Buswang terminal up to the place is only P10. Entrance fee is P100/pax for Aklanons, and that goes to the maintenance of the park. Beginning at the entry point, there's almost a kilometer walk/trek, every 100 meters away there's a shed for those unhealthy or unfit like me. While perspiring, the air is soothing to the tired body. Plus the chirping of birds is giving relaxation to the mind. The nicest spots here are the bamboo bridge overlooking the second growth mangrove forest, the camping site and the place overlooking the sandbar. Sometimes, because of our excitement to see all the amenities of the park, we had overlooked the mini-library/function hall that educates us on mangrove/bakhawan growing. The Bakhawan Ecopark had received many awards/citations and...

I recently visited this eco park with my mother, a senior citizen, and while the scenery was absolutely superb, there are a few things to keep in mind. The best time to go is either very early in the morning or late in the afternoon, as the sun can be extremely hot during midday.

While the park offers a great adventure and a peaceful 1.2km walk surrounded by nature, it may not be the best option for kids or seniors. The pathways, made of bamboo bridges, require maintenance—some nails were sticking out, which could be a safety concern.

That said, if you're up for an adventure and a quiet escape into nature, this place is still worth a visit. Just be sure to wear comfortable shoes and take extra caution...

Current opinions: Nature at its finest 😍😍 I really loved the idea of mangrooves being planted and well taken care of, at the same time, an attraction when you want to be one with nature.

*Positive points: The very long tread in the man made walkway is really worth it. Pictures look good and theres also a sort of "honesty" area where you can feed their cultured milkfishes (bangus) for P10. There's no one looking out and you will just have to leave the coin in a box. In the end of the trail, you can eat a local delicacy "tamilok" (worms inside bakhawan) for around P200 😋😋

*Negative points: Some wooden planks in the footwalk need repairs and maintenance. (Pics will...

It's a must stop when you go to Kalibo. The 100 meter walk going to the shore through the towering mangroves has such a healing effect and its totally worth it once the relaxing view of the open sea greets you. You could even experince eating tamilok which is a famous Filipino delicacy, often found in the provinces Palawan and Aklan. It's also called woodworm, because it's, well, a worm-like thing that is extracted from wood. It's one experience that you can definitely take off your bucket list. 😉

A relaxing and serene place to visit in Aklan. They just need to fix some parts of the bamboo/wooden pathway because nails are coming out and there are some potholes. Entrance fee per head as of this posting is Php60 for Aklanons and Php120 for non-Aklanons. Bring a tumbler with cold water and some snacks when going there. At the end of the path is a bamboo resting and picnic area overlooking the beach. Swimming is strictly prohibited.
