The Enchanted Balete Tree is one of Siquijor’s most iconic and mystical landmarks. Towering at around 400 years old, this massive Balete tree stands as a silent witness to local folklore and island legends. Many locals believe the tree is enchanted or spiritual, often associated with healing, mystery, and ancestral spirits. Whether or not you believe in the stories, there's no denying the tree’s eerie beauty and majestic presence.

Located along the highway in Lazi, this Balete tree is not just a tree—it’s an experience.

🐟 The Fish Spa Experience Included in the ₱30 entrance fee (it used to be ₱20 the previous year), the fish spa beneath the Balete tree adds a unique twist to your visit. The natural spring water from the base of the tree feeds a small man-made pool where fish of different sizes swim freely and nibble at your feet.

Ticklish but fun! 😄 The sensation can be surprising at first—especially when larger fish take interest—but it’s something you’ll laugh about with friends or family. It’s a quirky, relaxing experience and totally worth trying, especially if it’s your first time.

Size of the area: The fish spa area isn't very large, but when we arrived, there weren’t too many tourists, so we didn’t have to wait or squeeze in. It made the experience more chill and enjoyable.

One thing to note: there’s no designated washing area for your feet before or after dipping them in the water, which might raise concerns about hygiene. We're not exactly sure if the water is continuously flowing, so that's something to keep in mind. Hopefully, the water is kept clean since the fish live there, but still, it would be nice if they added some sort of rinsing area for better sanitation.

The area surrounding the Balete Tree also offers a chance to pick up souvenirs. You’ll find small shops located below Baletebistro and beside the tree’s entrance, selling everything from local crafts to keychains and magnets.

Also, since the Balete Tree and fish spa are on private property, they have a clear sign posted that says “Please do not feed the fish inside”—and it’s something we should all respect. Feeding them can affect the balance of the water and the health...

Centuries-old balete trees are some of the most fascinating attractions here in Philippines due to their sheer sizes, and also as to how bizarre they look - a cluster of trees growing in and over-branching its host tree just to suck the life out of it is a concoction for scary bedtime stories. Totally worth seeing!

What perfect timing it is that one of the most famous balete tree in the Philippines can be found right here in the mystical island of Siquijor itself. Not only is it semi-magical but also adds to the array of things you can do in this naturally blessed island.

This balete tree stood tall and imposing around the area. Its gargantuan size dwarfes even the tallest of coconut trees around the area.

Though the ones in Aurora and Canlaon City are bigger, the one here in Siquijor looks more mystical. At the foot of the tree itself lies a deep pond where the tree grows. The locals have already built a pool from the pond itself where people can dip their feet and where fishes come in and eat the dead skins away, giving you a foot-spa experience.

Just to add to its mystical experience, beside the tree are souvenir shops selling magic stones, love potions, and voodoo doll ref magnets and key chains. The place truly live by its name - the Old Enchanted Balete Tree of Siquijor....

The Old Enchanted Balete Tree in Siquijor is a captivating destination that truly deserves a 4 out of 5 stars rating. This centuries-old tree exudes an aura of mystery and wonder, making it a must-visit spot on the island for those seeking a unique experience.

The fish spa at the base of the tree adds an extra layer of enchantment to the visit. As you dip your feet into the clear waters, the little fish flock to nibble away at the dead skin, providing a delightful and refreshing sensation. It's a truly one-of-a-kind experience that leaves your feet feeling smooth and rejuvenated.

However, there is a minor caveat to this otherwise enchanting experience. If you decide to return for a second fish spa session within two days, you might find that the fish are less eager to feast on your calluses. This can be a little disappointing for those hoping to enjoy the fish spa on consecutive days during their stay in Siquijor.

Despite this small quirk, the Old Enchanted Balete Tree remains a magical destination that you shouldn't miss. The combination of its mystical charm and the unique fish spa experience makes it well worth a visit. With a solid 4 out of 5 stars, the Old Enchanted Balete Tree is a must-see attraction that promises to leave a lasting impression on your...

Save for your BUCKETLIST 🤌 guide below! Could you guess where this was?? 📍 Siquijor, Philippines Places to see: 1) Cambugahay Falls (overly hyped very busy but awesome caves under the falls!) 2) Enchanted tree if you like fish eating at your feet 😂 3) Lagaan Falls, Lugnason Falls 4) Pitogo Cliff (AMAZING) 5) Bucafe for the view and fruit salad! 6) Cantabon Cave - Didn't go but looks good 7) Tulapos Marine Sanctuary to swim with Barracudas The best food on the island is Dolce Amore Restaurant insane pizza. (The best we've ever had randomly!?) So many dive spots, snorkelling, bars which absolutely go off. (We are too old for that but looks fun 😅) Siquijor is actually quite small and underdeveloped, but this is part of its charm. It's going through huge growth. There's black magic history in the past including voodoo, so they say don't be rude to anyone here... Have you been to Siquijor? . . . #siquijorphilippines #siquijor #visitsiquijor
