Mount Pinatubo Day Trip – Totally Worth It!
We left Manila super early for a 5-hour drive to Mount Pinatubo. It was long, but the roads were decent, and we had snacks and music, so time flew by. Once we got to the jump-off point in Capas, the fun really started. The 4x4 jeep ride was wild — super bumpy, super dusty, and super fun. It felt like riding through a desert with crazy views all around. We crossed rivers, drove over lahar fields, and even had to hold on tight a few times because of the rough terrain. Definitely not your average road trip! After the jeep ride, we started the hike to the crater. It was actually pretty easy — took us about 45 minutes, mostly flat with just a few small uphill parts. The scenery along the way was cool, with canyons and streams, and the weather was kind to us (thankfully not too hot). Reaching the crater lake was the best part. The view was stunning — calm, blue water surrounded by mountains. We just sat there for a while, took a bunch of photos, and soaked it all in. You can’t swim, but honestly, just being there was enough.
If you’re up for a mix of adventure and chill vibes, this trip is awesome. Just wear comfy clothes, bring water, and prepare to get dusty on the jeep. Totally...
Read moreMy journey to Mount Pinatubo was an adventure I’ll cherish. Located in the Philippines, it’s a testament to nature’s power and beauty.
The journey began with an exhilarating 4x4 ride across a rugged, lunar-like landscape. This terrain, once blanketed by volcanic ash from the 1991 eruption, felt surreal and otherworldly.
The highlight was the hike to the crater. As I trekked, I marveled at the canyons and ash-covered valleys. Reaching the crater, I was met with a mesmerizing sight. The pristine, aquamarine lake within the colossal crater was a stunning contrast to the desolation around.
It was more than just breathtaking scenery; it was a reminder of nature’s power and resilience. Mount Pinatubo’s eruption had been catastrophic, yet it had left behind something stunning. This journey instilled in me a deep appreciation for the forces shaping our world and the tenacity of nature, showing that even in the harshest circumstances, beauty and wonder can emerge. It’s an experience I’ll forever carry, a testament to the remarkable places hidden in the most unexpected corners...
Read moreThe hike to the Pinatubo Crater Lake commences with an adventurous one-hour, bumpy 4x4 drive through a stream originating from the crater lake. Be sure to bring a cloth or mask to cover your mouth and nose, and don glasses to prevent eye irritations. The subsequent 2.8km ascent to the crater lake doesn't quite qualify as a challenging hike; rather, it's akin to a leisurely Sunday afternoon walk, with just a few moderately steep steps. The descent to the water inside the crater is a bit steeper, and you may encounter stream crossings along the way. Bring sturdy shoes; consider going barefoot or bringing slippers for stream crossings.
To embark on the 4x4 ride, you'll need to arrange for a tour guide. Be mindful that weekends can get extremely crowded. It's advisable to start your journey from Angeles, not Manila, to avoid spending the entire night in a minibus. If possible, choose a weekday for your trip. A visit to Pinatubo Crater Lake is undeniably a worthwhile day trip in...
