Lake Danao is a natural fresh water lake situated in the middle of the forest reservation about 18 kilometers North East of Ormoc City. It is more than 2 kilometers long and about a kilometer wide (max).
To enjoy the lake, the best thing to do is to rent a floating cottage (several are maintained by the community association) and pull yourselves (cottage and all) to the middle of the lake using ropes secured to the opposite ends of the lake.
You can also try the treats prepared by the locals which include freshwater 'tahong' and edible fern. The freshwater 'tahong' is harvested by the locals from the lake itself and you have several options on how you would like it cooked like adobo style, hot & spicy, or as a broth, among others. The fern is best eaten as a salad. You can also try the guinataang baki (frog).
Visitors are however cautioned that the lake is situated far from the city and the route is not that safe after dark. It would be best to go there early, enjoy the scenery, and leave for Ormoc City proper before 5 in the...
Read moreA great place to unwind and reconnect with nature. Floating cottages and kayaks are at P150 per hour each. You can order food, water, etc from the shops outside and have it delivered to your cottage via kayak. Shellfish sisig is a must try. Floating coconut and suha vendors come visit the cottages area from time to time. I hope the locals maintain this. Also, I hope the locals can be more strict in waste management and ensuring peace and order. I hope guests respect the serenity of nature. Lastly, I'm not sure there are lifeguards or rescue people in the area so don't swim or kayak too far from your cottage as it could be difficult to swim against the current due to the wind. If there are lifeguards, I hope they can be more attentive - 2 kids seemed stuck at the middle of the lake for a long time due to sudden downpour and wind and might be too embarrassed to...
Read moreDisappointing. Lots of loud, drunk people. Overcrowded. Only saw 4 kubos in a very small area and all of them were taken so nowhere to chill. Apparently, there's another area with kubos and bamboo structures to chill out but I didn't see it, there was no signs to it, and the people who man the entrance never gave any type of map, they just collected the entrance fee, and told me there's many beautiful women inside, as if I was a sextourist going into a bar. Crazy, and a waste of time. The lake itself is beautiful though, but typical for Philippines, the people and their disrespect for nature ruin everything that is beautiful in this country. It should be a protected environmental asset and maintained, and not treated like any old beach resort to get drunk...
