A historical church named after Bacolor's patron Saint, San Guillermo. Our friend Krizia graciously gave us a quick tour around the place sharing daunting stories of how the whole place was half - buried due to the ravaging lahar back in the 90s following a series of eruption from Mt. Pinatubo. Fast forward to today, the church is still being used as a place of worship, symbolic of the Kapampangan people's bravery and resilience. In fact, there was a wedding ceremony during our visit and despite the celebration, I can still feel the solemnity of the place. The old convent turned into museum wing where church relics are kept alongside old photographs of the lahar tragedy gave me goosebumps. I dunno! It's as if I can hear and feel the tragedy that was. Naiyak nga ako e! When in Bacolor, Pampanga, don't miss the chance to visit the place. Bubusugin ang puso mo ng mga nakakaantig na kwento. And BTW, dito pala kinunan ang teleseryeng Santino. đ

The first church was built by the Augustinian friars in 1576 on the lot of Don Guillermo Manabat, a rich landlord believed to be the founder of Bacolor. An earthquake destroyed the church and a new church was built by Fr. Manuel Diaz in 1897. It has a central nave and well-lighted transept with windows. The main Retablo, side retablos and pulpit are gilded with gold leaf. The richness of the decoration of Bacolor church depicts the advanced stage of Baroque and Rococo. In spite of the 1991 eruption of MOUNT PINATUBO, which half-buried the church on October 1, 1995, the structure is still being used as place of worship. It was already a world-renowned tourist destination before the lahar tragedies; now more tourists flock to the church whose remaining features are being preserved and maintained.

The place was so nice. It was actually fascinating because lahar flow from the slopes of Mount Pinatubo which erupted into world notice on June 15, 1991, buried the church at half its 12-m height. The church was sanitized well. There is a comfort room beside the church for the people who visit the place. There's also a souvenir shop, you can buy some rosary and some religious stuff. There is no entrance fee when going to the church, it was free! The location of the church was quiet difficult to find but there are signage so there are no possible way for you to get lost. If you wanna have some "me time" I really suggest the place, it was peaceful in there. :)

The San Guillermo parish Church is a very old church that got half-buried in lahar during the Mount Pinatubo volcanic eruption in 1991. It has been restored though they were never able to dig out the lahar which has hardened thus making the church ceiling lower than other churches. This is a historic church several centuries old which can be seen in the old wood in other parts of the church. The belfry is well maintained and the bells are regularly rung. This church has a lot of religious statues and relics that they have kept through the years and a written record of its history is posted in the parish archives.

The last church for our Visita Iglesia, and it's really a must to see and feel one of the historical churches in Pampanga. Almost half of the church is submerged totally to the ground because of the eruption of Mt.Pinatubo's lahar. Quite impressive that it was maintained and preserved, from the inside, outside even the memorabilias and free access to their museum. The place was totally packed because of the occasion. Comfort room is a big plus, parking is plenty, please add a little more pavement for âż

One of the oldest Spanish Baroque style churches in Pampanga it was half buried by a slurry of volcanic debris from the eruption of Mount Pinatubo the 12 meter high lahar buried the church in 1995 - several years after the original eruption. Unable to excavate the church fully; the ânewâ floor and surrounding area means the roof inside is much closer now, and just the top part of many of the original windows are now at âfloorâ level.
