Home of the Biggest Catholic Church Bell in Asia.
Visit the Panay Church, home to the largest Catholic church bell in Asia, and experience a piece of history with its beautiful, old-world charm. To see the massive bell up close, be prepared to climb 63 steep steps (ask a church member for access). While there's no entrance fee, donations are appreciated. Don't miss the peaceful spot at the back of the church. One thing to note: the nearby public restrooms could use some improvement – a small fee would help maintain cleanliness and provide water. Given its popularity among tourists and locals alike, it's a great spot to take a break and grab a bite from the many food stalls and street food vendors outside. Just be aware that parking can get tight, especially during Mass. The church is conveniently located near the Municipal Hall and police station.

Read moreSta. Monica Parish Church in Panay, Capiz was declared as National Historical Landmark and National Cultural Treasure by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines and the National Museum, respectively. The same recognition were given to Sta. Barbara Church & Convent and San Joaquin Church in Iloilo. From the Roxas City Ceres terminal, I commuted through a multicab leading to Provincial Capitol route at P8.00 fare and dropped off at the City Square Store, just a little distance from there is a tricycle terminal where I rode going to Panay Church. From the drop off point, I saw the beautiful and restored Church. This is my second time to visit the Church, the first one was after the typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) where I saw then the damage brought by that calamity and was made the Church temporary closed. Now, I already enter and was amazed inside it. I saw the antique "retablo" or main altar and another retablos niched with antique images of Saints. I felt that it's like a Church museum because everything is old. I met also the tourism officer who accompanied me to the belfry where the largest bell in Southeast Asia is hanging. He's giving orientation and I admired him of his kind gesture....
Read moreBeautiful, old church in Panay. It looks better from the outside though than from the inside. Like a lot of the old churches in Visayas, this one needs TLC -- a fresh coat of paint would do wonders to it. This is something I have witnessed in so many old churches in Visayas which you wouldn't see in Luzon. I swear I'm not biased, just stating a fact. The best part about my trip there was going up the belltower ang seeing the bells, and there were a number of them, at least six, maybe more. I was so busy taking pictures that I forgot to count. The biggest one was really thick and I would imagine very heavy. I went on a Sunday and after mass, there was a group who asked to go up the belltower. The tour guide/caretaker approached me and asked if I wanted to see the bells. Lucky! For those commuting, there are tricycles that go from Roxas to Panay and vice versa. Not all tricycles do this route though, so better ask the locals. The tricycle had three numbers in front. You will be riding with other passengers in the tricycle. Fare is...
