I visited Regina RICA a few weeks ago, and it was a peaceful and spiritually uplifting experience. Parking is accessible, and the site is well-organized for pilgrims and visitors alike. This place is more than just a tourist spotâitâs a pilgrimage site and sacred sanctuary nestled in the mountains of Tanay.
To reach the iconic 71-foot-tall statue of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary (Regina Rosarii), youâll need to take a short walk uphill. The path is both calming and reflective, allowing time to prepare your mind and spirit. Along the way, youâll notice footprints embedded in the pavementâeach marked with a name. These likely belong to generous donors or pilgrims who have contributed to the sanctuaryâs development, adding a deeply personal and communal touch to the journey.
Once you reach the statueâaffectionately called âMama Mary on the Hillââyouâll discover that it has an interior chapel. Please note that modest clothing is required; mini skirts, see-through attire, and sleeveless tops arenât allowed as a sign of reverence. Visitors are also reminded to keep silent inside the statue, as itâs a place for meditation and prayer. I saw two nuns seated quietly in contemplation, which added to the serene and sacred atmosphere.
Inside the statue is a small altar. Being there felt calming and intimate. When you step out from the top area of the statue, youâre greeted with a breathtaking view of the surrounding Sierra Madre mountainsâa moment that feels both humbling and beautiful.
I also visited the modern chapel within the grounds. Though its design is contemporary, it still feels deeply sacred. The peaceful atmosphere, combined with the natural surroundings, enhances the prayerful experience.
Regina RICA was established by the Dominican Sisters of Regina Rosarii and has become a popular destination for pilgrims and nature lovers. It offers a unique blend of faith, silence, nature, and healing, making it an ideal place to pause, reflect, and reconnectâwhether youâre Catholic or simply seeking quiet time.

Read moreSince its completion in 2010, the landscape has transformed a lot in the past decade. Back then, it was only the Virgin Mary atop the highest point of the 13.5hec property, plus the canteen then that acted as office and visitor center at the same time. Fast forward to now, there's already a convent (not open to public), then the congregation setup a church, a columbarium/ossuary (Pahuwayan), a retreat center, there's TABOR as well under construction (the place has a penchant for acronyms as you'll observe every sign, take RICA, TABOR, CLEAR, READ, and ICEL to name some).
Parking is at a 50peso flat rate. While the visit is free, love donations maybe be made plus the availment of the healing candles, the healing oil, and other souvenirs at friendly rates. There are plenty of food places open in the complex, especially on weekends. Food can also be brought in and rent a cottage beside the main canteen. They've though up Rica merchandise already, and that includes their very own Rica milk tea!
With the influx of visitors, and with Tanay now a booming route for local tourists, the Dominican sisters had to organize the flow of visitors, beginning with the parking, with directionals for the pilgrims to ascend the hill, and bare witness to the majestic 71foot image, that houses a chapel and a eucharistic adoration chapel enveloped by the "Sulod" or mantle of protection of our lady.
Regina Rica group are devotees to praying the rosary and they pray relentlessly for the healing of families. May the venue continue to bring people closer to their faith and bring love and comfort to every...
