The Weavers Association from Brgy. Chavayan offers a unique opportunity to experience traditional weaving; you can rent weaving materials for free with just a donation. They create beautiful “vakuls” (traditional headgear) and vests for men called "kanayi." The village is charming, filled with stunning stone houses that reflect the rich culture of the Ivatan people. Nestled in the mountains, the views of both the mountains and the sea are breathtaking, providing a perfect backdrop for photos and a serene atmosphere to unwind. It’s a must-visit for anyone exploring Batanes, as it showcases local craftsmanship and incredible scenery.

We had a day tour at Sabtang island after crossing the sea by boat. Never miss out on this tour on your trip to Batanes. This is where most of the stone houses are, in a small community of Chavayan. The old folks of the Sabtang Weavers Association make vakuls and other traditional outerwears in a small hut near the entrance of the village. You can observe the weaving process while visiting there and buy some of their handicrafts. You can also buy or rent their Ivatan outerwears while going around the village. This will be a great help the community.

Place was great! It's great to experience and explore places like this, and there's no other place like this in the Philippines except for Batanes! Some points to consider: - From Sabtang Port, you'll go here via tricycle and then you'll be walking around for most of the tour, so make sure to wear comfy clothes appropriate for walking - You can rent the traditional Ivatan headgear called vakul for women, and traditional vest called the kanayi for men
