Major Hike -- 8/9
Hardest trail that you'll climb here in South Cotabato!
It's all assault once you decide to leave the Phase 1 Camp Site and commit to the grueling 2-3 hour climb. The trail is steep, heavily forested, moist and the mountain side has very thick undergrowth.
What's even worse is the climb down, this is where you'll really comprehend how steep Matutum is. The only redeeming factor this mountain has is that it has the jungle for you to utilize -- roots, rocks, tree vines, tree trunks and the likes. You'll feel like a monkey while traversing the mountain side, as you'll experience the most raw and pure monkey trail in this region.
The summit is meh, but the climb itself is extremely rewarding.
Caution: Bring lots of water; around 3-4 liters. Dehydration is a concern, and you don't want to get dehydrated while you hike Mt. Matutum's trail.

Youâll need both lower body and upper body strength to pull you up from Phase 1 to the summit bc the trail was considered a âmonkey trailâ. Trekking pole is of no use going up to the summit from Phase 1. Overall, it was a 5/5 experience. Would definitely comeback...
