Each day, from the second- floor window, I grew up viewing the entire length of the majestic Minor Basilica. Its 18th and 19th century bells, not just as a timekeeper, faithfully summoned people to Angelus and Masses, and informed everyone of feasts with simultaneous, joyful ringing; of funerals with its melancholic and monotone sounds.
