Mapanuepe Lake Viewing Deck is a stunning hidden gem tucked away in Zambales, and it's absolutely worth the trip. We visited on a Saturday morning for a quick day use, and to our surprise, the area was peacefully quiet with only a few campers around, perfect for soaking in the beauty of nature without the crowds.
The drive going in was fairly straightforward. The route listed on Google Maps is accurate, and we found it easy to follow, especially with several trucks and other vehicles heading the same way. We stopped at the designated checkpoint to pay the Environmental Fee, which was kind of reasonable. From that point on, however, Google Maps became a bit unreliable for locating the actual viewing deck and camping grounds, so we opted to hire a local guide.
That’s how we met PJ, a young local boy who became our guide and honestly, one of the highlights of our visit! He confidently led us through the off-road paths and gave us the warmest welcome to the place. The trail to the camping grounds is a little rugged but drivable, especially with a proper vehicle, and the journey itself was breathtaking. Rolling hills, distant mountains, and panoramic views make every part of the ride a visual treat.
The camping area itself is beautiful and well-maintained, with lush greenery and a peaceful atmosphere. The entrance fee was surprisingly low, just ₱10 per person, though we found the ₱300 vehicle fee a bit confusing given the large price gap. Still, it felt worth it once we reached the grounds.
One quirky part of the experience was the presence of several carabaos roaming around. While they might seem intimidating, they were calm and mostly unbothered. Just admire from a respectful distance and you're good!
There were also clean CRs available, which was a pleasant surprise. While the water was limited, it was still functional and helpful, especially considering how remote the area is.
We managed to take lots of beautiful photos. The scenery is absolutely Instagram-worthy, especially near the edge of the lake and along the winding roads. Unfortunately, the rain cut our visit a little short, so we had to head back early. But even with the weather, our experience was serene and memorable.
Overall, Mapanuepe Lake Viewing Deck is a must-visit for nature lovers, weekend warriors, or anyone looking for a peaceful retreat surrounded by unspoiled beauty. With proper preparation, a sense of adventure, and a good local guide like PJ, you're guaranteed a 5-star experience. We'll definitely return. Maybe next time with a tent and more...
