Plzeň Zoo is a Czech zoo, located in Plzeň in Czech Republic. After Liberec Zoo it is the second oldest zoo in the Czech Republic, founded in 1926 on the river banks of the river Radbuza.

Excellent zoo overall and one of the best places touristic attractions in Pilsen.
- Ticket price is very reasonable (150 CZK I.e
~€6 for adults).
- Really hard to cover everything in a day, except if you are really energetic. Plan at least 5-6 hours so you satisfactorily cover all/most regions.
- Very good (and cheap) for kids. They have also added parks and playgrounds for them, as well as reasonably cheap restaurants for snacks and drinks all over the zoo.
- Vending machines exist that offer water, drinks for reasonable prices. WC's also exist all over the zoo and are clean.
- Zoo is divided into regions, e.g. Australia, Africa, Europe, etc. This makes it organized. Each region has a couple of special exhibitions/museums that are really interesting (no extra charge)
- Some suggestions for improvement:
* add a few tour guides
* some sections need better regular maintenance/cleanliness (some places really stink and are not very clean)
* add more signs to indicate how to rapidly exit the place; the zoo is huge and it's easy to get lost in there

One of the best zoos I have been to as far as enclosures go. You can actually see the animals and at a close distance. The lions on display was magnificent . With the male lion showing himself of in all his glory. What a beautiful beast. The zoo is wide spread and is actually set on the side of a hill. So put some good shoes on as there is alot of walking up and down. There is also a WW2 tunnel complex from a German anti aircraft complex that was an added bonus. And even a Sherman American medium tank on display! There's lots of trees for shade and sitting areas and you can buy refreshments, lunch, coffee etc around the zoo site. Had a great day, with great views . There's two entrances with parking. One at the top. And one at the bottom. And right next door to the zoo at the top end is Dino Park with very life like dinosaurs that move and make growling noises. Great place for the kid's as well as the adults. Well worth the visit.

Ze ZOO v Plzni mám mnoho pozitivních (1) a jednu velmi negativní (2) zkušenost.
1) Plzeňská ZOO je krásná, klidná a netradičně pojatá hned v několika ohledech. Je rozdělená do několika celků podle geografických oblastí, ve kterých najdete jak zvířata tak rostliny, které do dané oblasti patří. Jednotlivá oddělení jsou celkově stylizovaná do prostředí dané oblasti, obklopí vás v nich kromě zvířat i rostliny, kameny, step, písek, vlhkost, teplota, v některých částech i typické stavby, malby nebo dekorace. Toto netradiční pojetí a velmi povedené provedení navozují pocit, že jste opravdu v jiné části světa.
Zvlášť doporučuji pavilon "Království jedu", kde kromě jedovatých živočichů najdete i mnoho zajímavostí o vědě zabývající se jedovatými zvířaty a jedy samotnými.
Pro děti je zde spousta neokázalých a pěkných atrakcí, kontaktní zookoutek pro menší, hned za ním průchod velkým akváriem, kde jste přímo "pod vodou" a pro větší děti interiérové "hřiště" s provazovými prolézačkami.
2) Na závěr ovšem POZOR PRO VŠECHNY RODIČE menších dětí a zároveň dotaz na vedení zoo, proč to tak je. U některých výběhů jsou z vnější části elektrické ohradníky, většinou ve výši nad kotníky, někde výš. V návštěvním řádu se píše, že ohradníky chrání zvířata před predátory, nevím, před jakými predátory chtějí dvěma ohradníky chránit ptáky v kleci s hustou mříží, ale dobrá. Upozornění na ohradníky nejsou ze všech stran klecí a ohradníky jsou zkrátka v místech, kde má člověk při prohlížení zvířat nohy. Moje dvouletá dcera si sedla "na bobek" u klece ptáků naproti velbloudům, aby se ke zvířeti přiblížila, kolenem se dotkla ohradníku (tak, jak se to musí stávat mnoha dětem), koleno jí zrudlo, vyskákaly jí na něm centimetrové bolestivé puchýře a rudý šrám. Přestože nepláče ani při velkých pádech, teď plakala opravdu dlouho a bylo vidět, že ji to bolí. Klec ze strany, u které jsme stáli, nebyla označená upozorněním. Nechápu ohradníky vně výběhů a za sebe bych doporučila aspoň zauvažovat o lepším řešení. Rodič sice může po celou návštěvu sledovat, není-li někde náhodou ohradník, ale to si zoo pak moc neužije. Takže pozor na to, ať vaše děti nemají podobnou bolestivou zkušenost.

3yOkay starting with the good things: Some animals such as the bears had quite a good living space as it was pretty spacious, another upside is that there are a lot of different species of animals!
This however is also a downside in my opinion, as I get the feeling that the zoo tries to show too many different animals which results in less living space for most animals, the division of animal pens is not proportional, some animals have nearly too much living space while other animals are...
