Museum of Silesian Uprisings — Attraction in Świętochłowice

The institution is a municipal organizational unit, and its seat is the building of the former headquarters of the Donnersmarck estate at 1 Polaka Street, built in 1907 according to the design of Emil and Georg Zillmann.

The museum exhibition is located on three floors of the building (ground floor, first and second floors and mezzanine). It has a multimedia character and is arranged chronologically: starting from the exhibition "Świętochłowice A.D. 1919", through subsequent uprisings and a plebiscite, to showing the uprising fights and the consequences of the Silesian uprisings. For the arrangement of the exhibition interiors, m.in exhibits from the City Museum were used.

It is a very stylish and modern museum, the staff can speak English and are helpful. If you want to learn about the period of German occupation of Silesia and what was done for freedom after that, it is a great place. Bardzo ciekawe, narracyjne muzeum. Wbrew pozorom, warto zarezerwować na nie przynajmniej dwie godziny. Budynek dawnego komisariatu nie wydaje się duży, ale nasycenie wystawy treścią jest duże. Każdy może wybrać poziom, na jakim chce zwiedzać: może to być tylko poziom filmów, wyświetlanych w sekwencji w kolejnych salach (bardzo zgrabnie zrobionych), a można też zagłębić się w multimedia, zawierające wiele mniej znanych detali i szczegółów. Obiektów zabytkowych w tym muzeum jest bardzo niewiele, ale też nie taki ma ono charakter. Ma opowiedzieć historię i to robi. Ogromny plus za otwierający wystawę, poruszający film ze ś.p. Franciszkiem Pieczką jako narratorem. Innym bardzo mocnym punktem jest wirtualny pomnik powstańców, gdzie każdy może po nazwisku wyszukać konkretną osobę i znaleźć swojego przodka. Ja znalazłem mojego pradziadka. W czasie, gdy niektórzy próbują wmawiać, że Ślązacy to nie Polacy, ale jakaś osobna nacja - to muzeum jest tym bardziej potrzebne i godne polecenia. Praktyczna sugestia: jeśli chcą Państwo dobrze wypaść w quizie w tramwaju (na parterze), najpierw proszę się uważnie przyjrzeć starym pocztówkom w witrynie...
