Czorsztyn Castle is a picturesque stronghold located on a limestone hill above Lake Czorsztyn in the Pieniny Mountains. Its history dates back to the 14th century, when Casimir the Great commissioned the construction of the first brick stronghold on the site of a previously existing wooden and earth stronghold. The castle played a strategic defensive role, guarding the borders of the Kingdom of Poland and the trade route leading from Hungary.
In the 15th century, the castle witnessed turbulent events, including peasant revolts and Hungarian invasions. In the 17th century, the stronghold was expanded by the starosts of Nowy Targ, who gave it a Renaissance character. Unfortunately, in 1790, the castle burned down after being struck by lightning and fell into ruin.
Today, the ruins of Czorsztyn Castle are one of the greatest tourist attractions in the region. They have been partially secured and opened to the public. Tourists can walk along the former defensive walls and admire the view of Lake Czorsztyn and the Niedzica Castle, located on the other side of the water. The castle also houses a small museum presenting the history of this place and the everyday life of its former inhabitants.

Read moreI am actually surprised that you can take a tour which takes around 20 min. Usually it takes more time to visit castles but here... Not much to do. Definitely, views are awesome, especially in the morning when there is a fog over Czorsztyn lake. You need to take a camera and take a few photos. Also the route from parking to the castle is beautiful. We were there in during warm autumn. Trees are so colouful that time! However, besides ruins and views there not much to see. Definitely no attractions for children. Deep holes in the ground turned to be wish wells. No armors, cannons, knights, stables etc. Tickets: 3PLN for children under 7, 6PLN for olders. Also big family is accepted (adults 50% off). All in all if you want to spend 2h tops on a trip with a camera this is a good choice. If you're looking for a well preserved castle with a proper tour guide I'd skip this one (there is better...

We used the toilet 🚽 paid 2 PLN per person but since you have to take and use a key from the ticket counter to unlock and lock the toilet after using it. In 30 seconds this rude ignorant man from the ticket counter/ shop appeared and started hitting the door continuously like a madman until we came to unlock it. The same situation could have been handled rather easily having a skilled, less frustrated, educated and cultured person working there just like the nice educated cultured lovely lady who also...
