We paid full retail, as we were “bike ins” as we rode a tandem to the castle without reservations and my review will reflect this. At a cheaper rate, I would have given 4 stars. My daughter knows of the castle because of its association with the Harry Potter Cos-Playing events held at the pile and I couldn’t say no to her request after she bravely rode the tandem up a large hill to get to the place. Honestly, my room was not worth the money. We paid 150 PLN less for the best hotel in Bolesławiec the next day.|The cast iron door handle to our room nearly snapped off when I turned it. I noticed that many people mentioned „themed” rooms. I guess my room’s theme was “Welcome to the People’s Republic” as the furniture was “early Gierek” from the 80’s with three single beds stuffed in an L-Shaped room. The bathroom was poorly remodeled, the recently laid floor tile was already cracked. Plenty of hot water, unlike some other reviewers’ cold experience. We had a post stamp size window that you nearly had to stand on the bed to enjoy the great view. TV had one channel working, not a problem since the internet was surprising good. |Maybe we had the last of the available rooms and should consider ourselves lucky. We were on the third floor, maybe the first and second are a bit better. Be sure to ask about the room quality when you make a reservation. |Staff were courteous but didn’t volunteer any advice on how to enjoy the castle and the secret passages.|Dinner was a mixed affair. My daughter’s pierogi were fine, but my duck breast came in 8 different pieces, like I was eating multiple duckling breasts or the foul fowl flew over Chernobyl. Speaking of food fusion, Instead of apple sauce, they used chunky apple pie filling, including a surplus of gritty ground cloves. The excellent local beer washed down most of my disappointments. Breakfast was included and was typical, not bad, not noteworthy.|If you get a remodeled room, it may be worth the premium. Otherwise book a cheaper place and visit the castle on its own, it really is worth a look.|
