The Blue Springs (Niebieskie Źródła) nature reserve in Tomaszów Mazowiecki, central Poland is a unique place known for its outstanding natural beauty. The carstic springs occurred naturally as a result of geological processes involving water coming from underground and bubbling forth to the surface through layers of limestone and other sedimentary materials dating back to jurassic period. The reserve derives its name from the unusual colour of the water. Spring water absorbs red waves, hence the light, reflected from the bottom, has intense blue-green colour. It also depnds on time of the day and the altitude of the sun. The Blue Springs are home to hundreds of spieces of birds and other small species of animals.
