Skaryszewski Park is one of the most beautiful in Warsaw and you’ll find a pleasant 55 hectare site filled with wide alleys originally designed for horse drawn carriages, man-made hills, waterfalls, lakes and landscaped flowerbeds. It’s perfectly acceptable to sprawl out on the grass wherever you like here, have a picnic or just take 40 winks. Refreshments can be found in the Misianka café, a former public lavatory. Find it right next to Rondo Waszyngtona.
Originally founded in 1905, Skaryszewski Park went under the name Paderewski Park up until 1945. Within its manicured grounds are several points of interest, including a monument commemorating Allied pilots who flew missions to supply insurgents fighting in the Warsaw Uprising. The memorial is located at the exact site where B24 bomber was shot down in 1944, killing all but one of the seven crew on board. The sole survivor, Henry Lloyd Lyne, unveiled the monument in 1988, and today it is the sight of the British Embassy’s annual Remembrance service. In 2000 Lloyd Lyne, a retired farmer, was presented with a recovered piece of the plane by Queen Elizabeth II; he passed away at age 93 in March 2016.
Another far grander monument, frowned upon by the locals, was up until its removal in 2018 located near the entrance to the park and commemorated the killing of twenty-six Red Army soldiers by the Nazis in 1944. Originally, the monument which featured a low-relief sculpture of a Red Army soldier, was constructed over the graves of the soldiers in a different area of the park. In 1968, their bodies were exhumed and moved to the Red Army cemetery on ul. Żwirki i Wigury. The monument itself was also relocated to the more prominent position on the main alleyway, where it remained until its removal due to...
Read moreJune 2023, back in Warsaw again. I am visiting the park again, this must be multiple times that I have visited here now. Nice now with warmer weather, it is different again. A lot greener, more wildlife noises, lots more people here enjoying the park. Today I took pictures of the 2nd World War memorial. Apparently a British plane crashed in the park😢, while it was supporting Poland in their uprising against Hitler and the German army. The memorial is by a beautifully laid out Rose garden, am not sure if this is in respect of the lost plane crew?
The Rose's are scented, the smell was idyllic!😀 There is also a little Cafe set in behind it, but I didn't use it today.
First visit. I love this Park, there are pm many different walkways to choose from, that connect to different other beautiful areas👍😀
It is a busy park, people bike riding, walking, running, on scooters too. There are static exercise machines positioned around this huge park, and, they always seemed to be being used when I have gone past them.
There are multiple football pitches on one side too. A lovely waterfall, so many lakes within this place, you just wander around and find them. Keep an eye out for the red squirrels that live here, they are confident to come down and take food/nuts from your hand. Very nice, exciting for young children oh and adults too, as in England, we do not have this Red Squirrel breed.
Well worth to come here and have a relaxing walk around and...
Read moreWhen you behold Warsaw from above you can appreciate how green the city is. Obviously it’s best to experience this from late spring to early autumn. Later into the autumn many green areas become perhaps even more beautiful as the burst into yellow, red, brown and all possible shades of these colours.
Park Skaryszewski is in my opinion one of the most beautiful parks in Warsaw. It has a mix of old trees, bushes and water plant on and nearby the artificial reservoirs that spread inside. There’s a 1,9 km belt road inside - shared by walkers, joggers, runners, bikers and roller skaters. Within or outside this belt there’s ample space to enjoy a picnic on the grass, by a tree or on a bench. A picturesque waterfall closes off the eastern side. On the opposite side you can enjoy a flower, mostly rose, garden.
There are a couple restaurants or cafes in the park, however the nearby Saska Kępa (Francuska street being the district’s main street) offers countless and to great extent exquisite dining options.
All in all - a must see spot if you’re in Warsaw and the weather is...
