What a lovely project. It's light hearted and whimsical and very very impactful. Several alleys are covered with colorful umbrellas that dance a little in the wind, provide shade and breathe life into an area that I for one would have never known about or visited. There seems to be daily concerts in an umbrella covered stage nearby throughout July (check out their website for schedule).

The merchants and homes in the area seem to have really embraced the Umbrella Sky Project and have decorated their shops and homes with colorful umbrellas. This project seems to have inspired a lot of other urban artwork to emerge and flourish in the area from painted stairs and lampposts to murals, street art and yarn covered bikes.

A lovely visit about an hour...

For future visitors to Águeda, Portugal:

Discover the enchanting Umbrella Festival in Águeda, a captivating event held only during the summer months. While the initial month buzzes with excitement, I found the quieter moments toward the festival’s end equally magical. The unique spectacle of colorful umbrellas suspended above narrow streets creates an unforgettable atmosphere. Don’t miss this extraordinary experience!” 🌂🌟

Whether you’re a photography enthusiast or simply seeking an offbeat adventure, Águeda’s umbrella-covered streets promise a delightful and...

We came to Agueda to see the umbrellas but the only the ones by the hostel were up. We were disappointed but we did enjoy exploring the city using the app with all of the artwork locations as a scavenger hunt. We discovered the app at the tourism info centre and used the free wifi to download. Some of the app locations are misplaced and we had trouble finding a few. Some of the locations had interactive elements where the artwork became animated. Very clever. Overall it was a great way to explore the city.
