Quinta de Silvoso — Attraction in Amarante

The perfect glass of wine on a hot summer’s day is the Quinta de Silvoso Vinho Verde from the Azal grape. It has a slight effervescence to it. We also had the sparkling (espumante) wine from the same grape which was also great!

Award winning winemaker Ricardo Mendes gave us a tour of this small, family run vineyard, which his father converted from his grandfather’s livestock farm into a full vineyard in 1987. It is nestled in the hills of Amarante, but only a 10 minute drive from central Amarante.

We had one of the best cellar door visits ever, when we were hosted by Rita whilst in the Amarante Region last month. Rita spent a good hour with us, talking us through the history of the vineyard and the wines. The tasting room is an old stone house full of interesting antiques and character, which really adds to the experience.
