Aliança Underground Museum — Attraction in Anadia

I don’t get it how this place has 4,6 stars. It’s probably the worst “museum” I’ve ever been to, in any sense. It’s not actually even a museum but just a collection of stuff this super rich Portuguese guy bought (if he really bought all of that), many random things like photos of Gandhi, African art and Portuguese azulejos, all just put there without any sense. Additionally to the ethically highly problematic questions on why he owns all that, for example 1500 years old African urns which definitely belong in a proper archaeological museum, the things are just put somewhere without any explanation. There are no plates or tags explaining the objects or even just saying what they are, they don’t even have numbers, and they are all just “from Africa”, no context information at all about from which country and which time period. But the actually worst thing was the guide. Talking and behaving like you would imagine a trump-propagandist, he was all the time praising his lord Joao Berardo for how great he was in putting this stuff together and that their wine was the best in Portugal and that all the other wine companies were just crap. Especially, presenting to us the objects in the most superficial way that I ever witnessed from a museum guide (even when answering to questions). Like we were 5 year old kids. A nossa escolha para espaço de realização do nosso casamento não foi convencional: desde que visitamos o Aliança Underground Museum (em Anadia) há uns anos atras, o espaço fez-nos pensar o quão especial seria casar num espaço tal alternativo, tão cheio de personalidade! Desde o primeiro dia que a Sónia nos acompanhou nos preparativos para o nosso grande dia - ela agiu como uma autêntica wedding planner, e já a consideramos como parte da família! (iremos, com certeza, regressar!). A Sónia olhou para os pormenores do nosso grande dia e deu imensas sugestões que tornaram o nosso dia de casamento tão mais especial e "fora da caixa". A Sónia foi atenta, companheira e essencial para a realização do nosso casamento tal como tínhamos idealizado. A Sónia colaborou com os outros fornecedores de forma magnífica, desde a relação próxima que tinha já com o serviço de catering até aos outros fornecedores (celebrante, fotógrafos, videógrafos) e esteve sempre disponível para as inúmeras reuniões online que tivemos – visto que residimos no estrangeiro e tivemos de adiar o casamento duas vezes por causa da pandemia. Como a Sónia mencionou, quem escolhe casar num sítio destes não "bate bem da cabeça", mas fiquei com a certeza de que sim, nos é que temos as ideias "no sítio" - do feedback que tivemos de todos os convidados, todos acharam que o espaço e decoração inerentes (todas as peças de arte são absolutamente espectaculares!) fizeram com que o nosso casamento fique na memória dos convidados por (suspeitamos) algum tempo! Já para não falar numa carta de vinhos extraordinária (o videógrafo caracterizou-a como a melhor que alguma vez tinha visto num casamento!). Queremos também agradecer ao Eduardo que já foi caracterizado como sendo um guia exemplar, com um conhecimento incrível que cativou todos os convidados durante a visita guiada ao Museu (parte do programa do nosso casamento). Ainda de mencionar todos os outros membros da equipa cujo nome não memorizámos, incluindo a senhora responsável por colocar a passadeira vermelha até ao "altar". Acredito que poderia continuar a escrever sobre a nossa experiência aqui durante uns bons parágrafos, mas tenho esperança de que esta informação seja mais que suficiente para cativar aqueles que procuram um lugar para um casamento (ou outro tipo de evento, claro!) totalmente diferente e único. Wonderful experience!

The museum, built inside the cellars of a winery, includes several exhibitions of different styles and origins (African art, natural minerals, Indian art and photography, and more).

You also get to see active cellars of wine, sparkling wine and brandy, and learn about the production process of each. At the end of the tour you enjoy a tasting of very tasty sparkling wines (with an option to also taste a local dish, suckling pig).

Visits include a guided tour, and are only possible at specific hours - so make sure to book in advance. The tour was excellent, the guide very nice, knowledgeable and fluent in English.
