A Barragem do Alto Lindoso é uma das mais potentes da rede nacional. Entrou em funcionamento em 1992 e bateu vários recordes. Tem a maior queda entre o nível da albufeira e a sala das turbinas e o elevador é um dos mais altos e mais rápidos da Europa.

Pode visitar a central subterrânea, situada a 340 metros (!!!) de profundidade, que já serviu de palco a alguns eventos, incluindo um concerto de música: tem um jogo de luzes no tecto semelhante ao...

A Barragem do Alto Lindoso tem uma altura de 110 metros. Apesar de não ser a mais alta (ultrapassada pelas barragens do Cabril e de Castelo de Bode, ambas no rio Zêzere) é o mais potente central hidroelétrica em Portugal com uma potência de 630 MW. Existe um miradouro na margem esquerda (do lado de Ponte da Barca) mas a vista do centro da barragem é vertiginosa.
