Quinta de Covela — Attraction in Baião

We came earlier than our reservation time and the staff were very welcoming. The tour was done by Mr. Smith and he’s amazing. He explained everything and it was all very interesting. We learned so many things. And the wines taste great and with such good quality! We chose the package with 6 wines + cheese board for 2. The cheese board and bread was worth it and a perfect choice to have with the wines. Very reasonable price. You really get what you pay for. Good quality products. The place is very charming and very well maintained. I strongly recommend this wine tasting experience. The overall tour was very personalised. Thanks to Mr. Smith. We had a wonderful time on our visit. Orlando was an excellent host, so knowledgeable about all the wines (as you would hope!) and was more than happy to chat to us about our questions and curiosities.

Would recommend booking beforehand - we tried to book for the same day but they were busy (for good reason!) so they kindly offered us a slot that they happened to have free the next day.

The setting of the tasting was simply stunning - so peaceful and quiet and a hugely memorable part of our trip to the Douro valley.

Our favourite wines were the rosé and the Chardonnay. We bought a couple of bottles (they’re very good value given the UK prices we’re used to!). Needless to say we finished them off before we even left Portugal!

We had a private tour of the estate and some wine tasting at the end. The quinta is beautiful and the wines lovely. They insist on doing private only tours here and booked by phone, think an update of this and include an online version would be helpful. Also we thought pricing was very high for the experience, the 25 EUR per person cost was high compared to other Quinta's (presumably because of the private nature of the tours they insist on) and the cheese board we expressed interest in on the phone but wasn't asked before this was delivered was 30 EUR and very very expensive for what it was, more than the actual price of the tour itself..
