Choupal National Forest – A Fantastic Family Picnic Spot with a Bamboo Forest and a Cozy Café

Choupal National Forest is a fantastic destination for a family outing, offering a perfect mix of nature, relaxation, and unique attractions. The bamboo forest is a stunning highlight—walking through it feels like stepping into another world, with towering bamboo creating a serene and shaded environment ideal for peaceful strolls and photo opportunities.

Another great feature is the café, which provides a cozy spot to grab a snack or coffee while soaking in the natural beauty of the surroundings. The food and drinks are enjoyable, making it a nice stop after exploring the trails.

The only downside is that the bathroom facilities could be better maintained, but this is a minor issue compared to everything else the park has to offer. If you’re planning a visit, bringing along some hand sanitizer and tissues might be a good idea.

Overall, Choupal National Forest is a wonderful place for a family picnic, nature walks, and relaxation. The bamboo forest adds a magical touch, and the café is a convenient and charming place to take a break. Highly recommend...

Very lovely and large enough dog walking park just a stone throw from city centre. For us it's always a challenge to balance our time in Coimbra to make sure our dog can have a good experience too and not only having to wait in the car while we are shopping etc so this little park is a great solution. The city's sewage flows nearby (across, partly underground though) which is a pity and I can only just imagine the smell in the summer heat but there's not much anyone could do anything about it. Otherwise very...

I went on a long, 9km hike through this beautiful park just outside of Santa Clara. The day was very warm, but under the giant tree canopy, it was nice and cool. Trails lead past the Mondego River, a canal, and a small pond. There was some traffic noise near the roads, but further away, it was quiet. There is a small cafe near the front with picnic tables and a nice play area for the children. One of the trails is an exercise course. People were walking, jogging, biking, and possibly riding horses. This...

A very nice walk in the forest listening to nature and nothing else! Plenty of trails to walk and to do jogging under and through the forest canopy. Lots of benches to sit and relax in the middle of the forest! A very nice café in the middle of the forest for a sit down to have a café or a cold beverage! Very friendly staff!

What a wonderful park. Good o run, perfect for a relaxing. When you go there by weekend you will find many portuguese families there. I loved it because it was quite and beautiful. And if you hare waiting for a train the trainstation is only a 5 minutes walk away.
