One of the most amazing beaches I have ever been to. Once arriving on the island there is a small, pricy but good (!) restaurant. During high season a small patch of beach is serviced. BUT! From the ferry, take the wooden walkway towards “nude beach” (don’t worry you don’t have to go the full Monty), or walk west along the shore until you find your perfect spot. I was there on a Saturday (before the season) and I spent a whole day at the beach without seeing any other person. Just the birds and me. The farther you walk, the more deserted it will be. Nude beach? Don’t worry about that. There will be no one around to look at you ;) DO: walk west as far as you can. Explore the island. Have lunch in the restaurant. DON’T: just stay around the ferry pier. BRING: Umbrella, sunscreen and water/snacks. There is no shade at all - protect yourself. There are tons of shells, I found it okay to walk on them but you might want to bring the...

The ferry and the island is nice. BUT the sea was unusable - extreme amounts of rotten seaweed allover the island. Nobody was swimming. I was in the 5% of visitors who dared to come to the water. Unfortunately I found it disgusting and after a few tries had to give up.

I’m not saying the seaweed is someones fault. But they should at least inform you before they sell you the ticket, right? Money over customer...

Praia da Ilha Deserta is a true hidden gem near Faro, Portugal. Accessible only by boat, it offers untouched nature, crystal-clear waters, and a peaceful atmosphere. Perfect for those seeking solitude, long walks, or birdwatching in the Ria Formosa. The beach is clean and quiet, with just one restaurant offering fresh seafood. A must-visit for nature lovers wanting an escape...

Pros - nice sand - cool place isolated from a lot of tourists - you get the chance to swim in the Atlantic Ocean - umbrellas and beach beds for everyone Cons - no trees nearby so the sun is burning hot - the water is pretty cold and the flows are pretty strong so be careful when swimming - the bottom of the ocean is full of shells and pebbles so it can be pretty annoying
