Right beside the highest mountain of Portugal, sits some lovely villages however Castelo Novo with its landscapes of lush green to a brown, arid terrain bathed by a bright sunshine. From when entering into the village it is like traveling back in time while you absorb the history of the locality. From the medieval castle (circa XIII century), still have visible some of history like the Clock tower, the cobble roads or the small bridge at the entrance of Roman origin to the marvellous houses build with “xisto” shale and local stone, which I would highlight the old Council building circa XIII century and at the centre of the square the ‘stone column’ where criminals were punished and exposed, to the wonderful churches, this is a place which...

It’s a short uphill walk from the restaurant, o Lagarto, where we had lunch. The store by the ruin was closed but we were able to go up the tower anyway. Some beautiful “mountain views” from this site on a clear sunny day. We saw some donkeys in a field and walked down to play with them for a bit.

XII)." Fonte: minube.pt
