A Fantastic Park That Just Needs a Little TLC
We are a local family and have been visiting Alvito Park for years with our children (now 8 and 3). It's a fantastic, large park with so much to offer, and best of all, entry is completely free! It's our go-to spot for a few hours of fun.
The Good:
Playground: The main children’s playground is brilliant and split into three levels, which is great for different age groups. Our 3-year-old loves the lower section with its spring riders, while our 8-year-old enjoys the challenge of the climbing frames on the top level. A note on accessibility: the levels are connected by stairs.
Amenities & Comfort: The facilities here are excellent. There is a café, public toilets, and several drinking fountains. You can also find plenty of benches and picnic tables, many of which are in the shade. The playground itself benefits from shade from the surrounding trees, though I'd still recommend hats and sunscreen on very sunny days.
Space & Safety: The entire park is fenced (though the main entrance gate is usually open), so it feels like a safe, contained space for kids to cycle or run around. There are also sports courts for football and basketball. It’s worth noting that the playground itself is not separately fenced off from the rest of the park.
Parking: There is a dedicated car park. A quick tip: arrive before 10 am on weekdays or 9 am on a weekend to get a good spot, as it fills up fast. They also have EV chargers, though they are on the slow side.
Room for Improvement: The main reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the current state of maintenance. The soft flooring in the playground is in serious need of repair; there are numerous holes that have become trip hazards. Additionally, some of the equipment has been broken or cordoned off for several months (like the little train), which is a shame. It would be wonderful to see these repairs made to keep the park safe for everyone.
Overall, we love this park and will continue to visit. We just hope these safety issues are...
Read moreDesigned with families in mind, the park features spacious playgrounds divided by age groups, ensuring safety and age-appropriate fun. Children can enjoy a variety of play structures, including slides, swings, and climbing ropes. Unique features such as a mini tram, fire truck, and an old tram car add a nostalgic touch to the play experience. In addition, the park has paddling pools and shaded seating areas, providing comfort for parents supervising their children. The park is covered in greenery, with a rich tapestry of trees such as pine, cork oak, and chestnut. This lush backdrop not only provides plenty of shade but also creates a tranquil atmosphere, making it an ideal place to escape the city crowds. Visitors often praise the park’s cleanliness and the fresh air enhanced by the surrounding eucalyptus groves. Located within Lisbon’s vast Monsanto Forest Park, Parque Recreativo do Alvito stands out as a prime destination for families looking for a mix of outdoor recreation, relaxation, and...
Read moreI just love this children's park. I grew up going there on weekends, it is now very different but it still keeps all the magic. It is a great place to go with the kids. They have lots of fun and play a lot. It is also a nice place to go and have a picnic or to have a summer birthday party! I just love this place.
The biggest problem with the park is that it needs some maintenance, but I hope that they will keep to it, so that the place doesn't loose its magic.
Also I would like them to increase the parking availability or to increase the public transportation options...
