Walk here from Porto do Cruz, tough initially for us oldies (lol) 🤪🤪 but after getting to the one way road with the cable car on it , was much easier as was just slightly up and down. Walked to Boca do Risco and after speaking to a few other walker's headed down towards Machico. Joined the Levada and walked about 2 miles to a small bar then caught the bus to the bus station in centre of town. Fabulous walk , amazing views, a bit wet and slippery here and there but just need to take time. If you get the chance while in Madeira do this walk, either this way or from Machico side. Please note than when we did this hike on 17 January 2024, there was a small landslide that had partly blocked the way between Porto da Cruz and Boca do Risco. We (and other hikers we saw) managed to just go over the landslide to continue on the otherwise well-kept path so it is doable but it certainly is a dangerous obstacle. This obstacle can surely be unstable and slippery depending on the conditions and if you fall you will surely die.
