Quite easy hike for most of it and you have some chances to shorten the trip. The levada has been cleared of brush and high grass and now you can walk it without any real issues. You are outside and on hills so expect some kind of common sense to be needed - you have to walk on the concrete side of the levada in a couple of places so just pay attention it is an easy traversal. You can go up to Santo Serra or over towards Machico ... You can start on Rua d Caminho or Caminho d Poiso ... and go in either direction ... or on on end. There is a steep part that can be muddy and slippery if you are going up to Santo Serra but there is a fork in the path that leads on level ground and you can return. The levada walk borders our house in Santo Serra so if you are walking by - stop for a coffee or if you want a place to stay in the hills away from the hustle and bustle give us a shout at Petra's Madeira Hideaway in Santo Serra. We are on google maps. Enjoy your Madeira holiday.

Incredible place with smell of eucalyptus trees , cool in the summer as the walk is mainly under the forest branches, walk up from the Chapel and continue for about 7km and at the end you will get to the 3 waterfalls

It’s a bit confusing to get to. Before you get to this point you get to a crossing where four roads meet, but when your there you need to take the road that isn’t paved and leads to a cobbled road. You park there and walk past some houses down a path that has some old ruins next to it, and you walk into the forest. We didn’t do the entire Levada but just headed to the rope bridge and then went waterfall and back. I can honestly say the waterfall was beautiful and didn’t disappoint whatsoever. We then went back to the car and called it a day. The total trip costs us about an hour...
