Prainha restaurant is the only true sandy beach in madeira, there is white sand beaches but they are only man made, sand from a near by islands brought to Maderia, in the other hand prainha is natural, a once apon a time a Stone beach that weathered to become sand so you will find that the sand there is black and not as powdered but still soft on the feet. This beach has a breath taking view from the top of the hill to the beach it self. The food here is all freshly made by the owners ( Manuel and his lovely wife) they are a very happy couple who is willing to make your stay not only at the beach but in Maderia more enjoyable by verbally giving you a tour of what places worth visiting. The food here is very tasty from Veriaty of meats to see food and much more, let's say evertime a go on holiday I have to go there...so that is why me and my partner decided to have the reception from my daughter baptizim there the date was 3 of January , the weather was on our favour the sun was so bright and hot that our 40 guest when it the see for a swim who would of thought. We had a buffet made and I was not decepointed there was so much tasty food that I had to chare with random people sitting near by. I highly recommend anyone to go and visit this amazing exclusive natural beach. Thank you for having us we will be back again. Prainha,...

Cutie little beach with very swimmable waters. We went earlier in the afternoon so there was almost no one there. The water wasn’t warm, but once you get in, it's very pleasant. Also, if you look at the cliffs, you can sometimes see black crabs crawling around, which was super cool. Protip: There's a really cool view of this archway in the water if you go 10 minutes west up the trail from the beach. We crawled down to the archway, but beware, there are so....

A lovely little beach - lots of parking available, and the beach is situated a short walk down the hill. The cafe/building was closed when we visited, but be warned - there are lots of signs stating that it’s forbidden to place your own towels on the beach, which I’ve never seen on a beach before. The sea is quite calm and suitable for swimming, although there is no lifeguard. Overall worth a visit, but you can’t stay long unless you want to hire a...

Where to find black sand beaches in Madeira (save & share this post): As a volcanic island Madeira has quite a few black sand beaches, something not super common in Europe. 1. Seixal Beach, the beach in the video here is in Seixal, Madeira about 45 minute drive from Funchal (where most tourists stay) on the NW part of the island. This beach is great for surfing and surf lessons are offered here by Madeira Surf Center. 2. Praia Formosa right in Funchal is a mix of Black sand and pebbles so be sure to wear water shoes here.  3. Ribeira Brava beach is also a mix of Black sand and pebbles but perfect for swimming as it’s protected from waves so extremely calm. It’s about 20 minutes from Funchal. 4. Prainha Beach is one of the most popular black beaches in Madeira, 30 minutes from Funchal in the NE corner of the island. 5. Laje or Jamaica Beach also in Seixal. 6. Clube Naval de São Vicente Beach which has kayaking, fishing and very popular for surfing. I’ve also been to a green and pink sand beach but there is also a red sand beach! Have you been to a beaches other than the typical white/yellow sand? Follow @thetravelingchild for more travel tips! #seixal #seixalportugal #travelreels
