Gruta das Torres lava tube — Attraction in Madalena

A must see during a stay in Pico!

My special thanks goes to the guide - the way he did the tour and stories he told + his sense of humour made our tour really funny and interesting.

Second thank you to Mother Earth - never ever seen a lava tunnel and to experience this kind of 'creation' - just wow 😍

Also, as at the beginning of the tour there's a short video about the creation of Pico itself and kind of the backstory, I would have loved to do this on the first days of our trip - it gave so much good information in related to the island and different parts of it - would have been great to know it before we visited other areas of the island. Nevertheless - worth it!

Nb! Book in advance! They have around 4 tours a day and only do these when there are at least 3 people - we hoped to visit it and try our luck and see whether there are more ppl, and the first tour did not have more ppl than us so we had to book for the...

The enviroment was nice, and the cave where a sight to see. unfortunatly we had a bad experience with our guide (marcello) Nobody of the group could understand his english, when we didnt laugh at his jokes (we couldnt understand him) he got mad, and continued to be passive aggresive towars the group. When somebody pointed it out that he talked a little much and nobody could here him, he even got more agressive. He cut the tour short because nobody was paying attention anymore.

We where promised 1u,30min in The cave, but because of our passive agressive guide we only spend a small hour inside...

We definitely recommend the visit to this unique geological formation in Pico island. You will have a video presentation before going to the tour which is informative and gives you a glimpse of what you will see underground. The team of tour guides is very knowledgeable and all the information shared with the visitors makes this experience even more rich and interesting. They make you feel like real explorers going in these lava tubes with safety (helmets and flashlights are provided).

The use of good shoes is advisable and booking in advance is also necessary for this good value for money tour guided visit!
