This is one the best and most beautiful trails of this kind that I have ever done. I started from Amieira do Tejo side since this is a linear trail with about 3,5km for each side so you do 3,5 km to the end and back another 3,5km.
There is a longer circular trail that includes this part of the trail called PR1 Trilho das Jans - Nisa that has about 11km.
I don't recommend this trail for little children since most of the part of trail is on a stone wall called Muro de Sirga that has no protection from the river side and has places with deep falls so a little distraction can be fatal.
Back to the trail it runs along Tejo river with beatifull landscapes and train railways on the other side of river.
Most of the trail is on the Sirga stone walls and last part on wood trails.
You will find some surprises along the way. Also a suspended bridge not for the faint of heart and a transparent walk above river Tejo. As I said for me one of the most beautiful "handmade" trails that...
Read moreSTAW AWAY if you come by train. The boat that can take you to the other side of the river is nothing but a beautiful myth: it exists, you can see it, but it does not EVER move. No, the local municipality never bothered to build a floating bridge, or place a motor boat across that narrow passage that a baby could swim over. They all know the transfer boat is a hoax but pretend they only learnt about this the day you call them: all are actors in this pointless plot, from the head of local tourism in Nisa to the head of the region (who of course told her secretary to deal with this, indeed, why should she care that the state money was splashed on something you can only reach by car). The random woman saw me waiting and told me to not even hope. Oh, of course they explain it by ‘high water levels from the dam’ and never their disastrous incompetence. TIP: go to barragem de Belver, there as a bridge to a wonderful walk along the river with a view...
