Miradouro da Ponta do Sossego — Attraction in Nordeste

Miradouro da Ponta do Sossego, located on São Miguel Island, is truly a unique botanical paradise. If you’re looking for a spectacular sunrise view in Sao Miguel, this is it (though we unfortunately came on a cloudy sunrise day). If you’re looking for a place to bring your family for a picnic and barbecue this is DEFINITELY it.

Just outside the viewpoint there are a few parking lots available (they are alongside the main road). Be careful!

The garden itself is beautifully manicured and maintained. Studded throughout the area are pavilions and picnic tables, each with their own cement grill and series of trash cans. Interspersed among them are little viewing booths for the dramatic coastlines.

PS: there are some adorable and very friendly stray cats just waiting for attention and food. They make for great photography models haha

Amazing place to stop, and check the breathtaking view on the sorounding cliffs.

There is a park, which is very well maintained. Also parking is free, and inside there are multiple spots with a roof, table and chairs, to eat, drink and spend time with your friends. There is also a toilet.

Parking space is right by the main road, so be careful when you exit the parking place. If you are able to park the car with the back of the car in direction to the park entrance, it will be much easier to drive...
