A Hidden Gem in São Miguel!

During our trip, we stumbled upon this beautiful place, and it completely blew me away. This park is like something out of a storybook! The lush greenery, the waterfalls, and the atmosphere, which we got lucky with because we Travelled in September.

The highlight for me was definitely the Caldeirões waterfall. It was beautiful and extremely calming to sit by and take it all in. The trails are well-marked and super easy to walk, even if you’re not a big hiker. There are also these really cool old watermills scattered around the park, which give the place a unique touch.

What I loved most was how relaxing the park felt. It wasn’t too crowded, and there were plenty of spots to just sit and chill, especially in the picnic areas. If you’re into nature, photography, or just want a quiet place to unwind, this park is a must-visit while in the Azores. I’m really glad we got to see this...

Nice nature park. Suggest showing up early or late before the tour groups arrive. Otherwise you will have to dodge tour groups in wetsuits who are there to repel down the waterfalls. Talk about breeding over tourism. A number of local tour operators are making out like bandits at the expense of others who would like to enjoy the natural beauty of the small park without hordes of people in gear filling up the narrow muddy trails. Its more than an inconvenience, it’s a hazard. San Miguel Island is beautiful. Why jam pack a bunch of nubes who have never repelled before into a beautiful little park? There are plenty of other areas on the island for beginners. One of the tour leaders had the temerity to scream at one of the tourists who was not on her tour for something she obviously didn’t like. It was rude and exacerbated the inconvenience of...

Incredible place, one of the most beautiful natural parks on the island of São Miguel. If you are travelling around the island, make sure this makes your itinerary. There were very few tourists when we visited (early-March) and enjoyed having the place almost only to ourselves. The park is very well maintained, with various spots and buildings to explore. There are also signs explaining you the purpose of the various installations. A gift shop with a cafe is located on the park's premises in case you feel the urge for shopping or grab a coffee or a quick bite. The Hydrangeas were not in bloom during our visit, but the Azaleas were, which still offered beautiful sight and some nice photo opportunities. There are also many waterfalls you can admire within the park itself. Prepare to spend one to two hours from your...

Have you heard of the “Hawaii of Europe”? If not, let us introduce you to the magical archipelago of The Azores! An autonomous region of Portugal located in the mid-Atlantic, it’s full of quaint fishing villages, stunning emerald lake-filled calderas, and hedgerows of pastel hydrangeas for as far as the eye can see! We spent 8 amazing days exploring 3 islands with @visitazores: Sao Miguel, Terceira, and Pico and rounded up some of our favorite experiences below! 👇 🏝️Sao Miguel: 🧗‍♀️Canyoning at Parque Natural da Ribeira dos Caldeirões with @funactivitiesazoresadventure 🛥️A boat trip around Vila Franco do Campo Islet 🏝️Terceira: 🐋Whale / dolphin watching with @picosdeaventura 🌋Exploring the ancient lava tube of Algar do Carvão 🏝️Pico: ⛪️Hiking Prainha do Norte, a 7.8km trail that includes the Chapel of São Pedro, a natural swimming pool, and a windmill! ⛰️Seeing the impressive Pico mountain 🍷Dinner and wine tasting at @azoreswinecompany 📌SAVE this post for your trip to The Azores, and tag someone you would take along for the adventure!

Mentally, we’re still on the island of São Miguel in The Azores 🌿🇵🇹 The largest of 9 islands in the Portuguese archipelago, São Miguel has something for every type of traveler! There’s waterfall rappelling for the adventurous type, hot springs for those who prefer to relax, and plenty of hiking trails and epic viewpoints for the nature / outdoor lovers. Our favorite bucket-list activities that you absolutely *can’t* miss are below: 📍1. Walk the 110 steps of Nossa Senhora da Paz 📍2. Take an afternoon boat ride around Vila Franca do Campo Islet (keep an eye out for rainbows and wildlife!) 📍3. Explore Ponta Delgada city 📍4. Hike Boca do Inferno at sunset 📍5. Rappel down waterfalls at Parque Natural da Ribeira dos Caldeirões 📍6. Wander through the Gorreana Tea Plantation 🍵 📍7. Kayak Sete Cidades Lake, taking in the views around Lagoa do Fogo 📍8. Soaking in the healing waters of Caldeira Velha 👉🏼 Which of these activities would you do first on São Miguel in @visitazores? Let us know in the comments! #hosted #VisitAzores #azoreswhatelse
