The wild Costa Vicentina in the far south-west is an area of rocky promontories, monasteries, Moorish ruins and stunning quiet beaches. From the Herdade Amália guesthouse, near Azenha do Mar village, follow a path through thicket and down rough-hewn steps to Praia da Amália. A freshwater cascade tumbles on to the sandy cove, providing a natural shower. Jagged black cliffs bookend this picture-perfect beach, named after 1940s rags-to-riches figure Amália Rodrigues, an orange-seller turned fado singer, who learned to swim here. Café Central is a great restaurant in Brejão for charcoal-grilled fish and octopus salad. The beach lies on the Rota Vicentina coast path, a 400km waymarked footpath which follows ancient smugglers’ routes and fishermen’s paths. Pick up the path from Azenhas do Mar and hike 3km over the wild coastal landscape with views inland to the...

My favorite beach in all of southern Portugal, it's a wild beach but of easy access if you park next to Amalia's Home. Make SURE you clean after yourself! It felt like a trip to wonderland, a path of thrones followed by beautiful flowers with a river flowing in the background and a cane tunnel to reveal a gorgeous site from a cliff. There you will find the old stairs from the singer's house down to the beach. Come early with lunch, check the tides because on high tide the beach is reduced to a 7 meter width and it's first come first serve. We saw a "caravan" of uninformed people arrive after lunch having almost no realistic place to stay, ending up leaving. DO NOT bring children under 10, unless you plan to be their bodyguard at every second, clean after them and keep them quiet, there are NO amenities, no WC, no trash can and most important, No...

We found this beach by having a stroll nearby our stay. It was a great discovery. It requires 5 to 10 minutes walking to the beach but it’s totally worth it. It’s super quiet and views are spectacular. It is considered a wild beach as there are no services such as restaurants nor bars nearby. Perfect spot if you’re looking for a chilled beach with some privacy. Do not forget to bring water and snacks! Also, very good if you like walking around as there are walking paths on the rocks with...

This is an amazing place for hiking. It is not possible to park the car near the beach, so you have to walk throw amazing path to reach it. On the way there is a small pretty river that ends with a small waterfall right in the ocean. The way can be challenging for very small children or older people. Few people, at least in January. Quite clean place, let´s keep it that way!
