I visited on October 24 at 4:45pm for only a tasting 10€ and was very disappointed. I contacted them directly before posting this review, but no answer. We arrived on time (group of 5), and waited at the tasting table until 5:00 when someone finally told us that the tour was running late. We asked if we could at least have a glass of wine while we wait and they said "no, you'll have the tasting soon". And I know that the cheapest bottle in Aveleda costs around 5 euros or less. That split between 5 is one euro per person, which should be a no-brainer for this big company to be able to offer. But, someone did bring us a couple crackers which really were one of the driest, most tasteless crackers I have ever had. And just a quick note, the table next to us was filled with cheese and charcuterie from the past group that was left over that would have been nicer anyways, and we could see one employee in the back eating the leftovers, which is fine, but we got some crackers. Anyways, the group finally came at around 5:10 (25 min late) and did the tasting. It was very simple, nothing very special in the information about the wines, and the service just seemed very dull and rushed. We each paid 10 euros for the visit, which in retrospect would have been better to split a more expensive bottle between us instead of trying the second label, more affordable, simple wines. The wines were not bad, but for 10 euros for a tasting of a wine that is worth maximum 15€ per bottle with little explanation and enthusiasm; it was not really worth it. And to top it off, they wanted to close the tasting room soon, so they were kicking us out before we finished drinking the wines, but the shop would be open. And of course, I wouldn't buy anything. I mean if this doesn’t show a message of impersonalisation and disregard for the guest’s experience… I don’t know what else to say. If the experience would have been nice, I honestly would have not had a problem with the price, but after this, I regretted to pay that much for what we...

AVELEDA is a grand Fairytail Garden and Winery in Portugal. It is a nice day trip from Porto. The most amazing parts of Aveleda include : the Cork Oak trees, the Quaint Fairy Tale Cottages nestled next to natural spring ponds, the tiny square stone paths that wind under towering specimens of Redwoods and other old growth forests, the natural filtered light, the soft sound of the fountains, the barn with crimpson vines which leads to their winery... to name a few. There is also an incredible vibe. It's as if you are being healed and softened without knowing it. When you experience it, gratitude flows. When you think your day could not be any better they treat you like family and serve you glasses of their unique green wines amoungst other favorites. These wines are paired with a lunch of their farm to table soups, salads, variety of meats, cheeses, and breads. On your way out, you can purchase desert to take home from their gift shop as well as a variety of other high quality food items as gifts. I can undoubtedly say our tour of Aveleda was the most renewing and relaxing experience of our trip to Portugal. Promise yourself this journey back in...

Imagine going to a renowned estate where your parents usually go to buy wine and being treated like dirt by the security guard Vitor Ramos because you came in and didn't know where the shop was. He yelled at us and asked us to leave because we didn't know where the shop was and we went the wrong way. Rude, rude, tried to intimidate us and said the reception was closed when we said we were going to write in the complaints book for the way he spoke to us when the reception was open. He stood at the door waiting for us with a mean face to scare us and even said "the Portuguese are always like that". In my country, in a familiar place, I felt threatened and afraid of a person who is old enough to be my father. A person with this temperament shouldn't even have a license to practice a profession like this. We didn't steal, we didn't mistreat anyone, simply instead of going straight ahead we turned left at the entrance to the farm, and for this we were treated with a haughty voice and with our chests made out. We asked for the complaints book but the employee Vitor Ramos is a Prosegur employee and not from Aveleda. Because we liked the farm and because we know that the farm is not to blame for Mr. Vitor's aggressiveness and lack of education, we went to the farm shop accompanied by the Operations Manager Joana Figueiredo who apologized for what happened. We bought a box of wine for the family. Now, in contact with Prosegur, if no one takes responsibility, Quinta Aveleda will have a complaint in the book. This country, tourism and women cannot continue to let these situations go unnoticed.

We were drawn to visit by the fairytale look of the venue and we were not disappointed. The tour was more than we ever expected. The grounds are vast and give storybook vibes, complete with fairytale looking cottages. We learned so much about Portuguese history, saw cork trees, California Redwood trees, beautiful ponds, unique walking paths and so much flora and greenery. The wine tasting had generous pours. I wished we would have had time time for a picnic, but this was our last stop before returning to Porto to fly to Madeira. We were dissapointed to not be able to buy desserts and bottles of wine. It just means we must return to have a picnic and buy some wine! Tours are offered in Portuguese and English. Reservations are highly recommended. This winery and tour are worth the stop, there is a photo opportunity around every corner.

The tour was amazing, we learned so much, not only about the property but Portuguese history. Cristina was amazing, knew her stuff and just very personable. The property itself makes you feel like you're in a storybook. It's just enchanting. I see reviews about not being able to tour the property on their own.. but this is still a private property that contains a home for the family to enjoy. For that reason, I totally understand why they don't allow for anyone just to roam freely. The family also needs their privacy. With that being said, touring with a guide is even better because otherwise, you wouldn't know what each of these structures on the property meant to the owners and the purpose of them being built.
