This is the location that brought me all the way from YYC, Canada. I saw this view on Instagram and could not get it out of my head. So a few months, flights, and $$$ later, I was finally there!!!!!
The best way to appreciate this view is to be prepared:
Bring shoes or hikers because the trail is uneven and slippery when wet (which is almost always). Check the Sete Cidades live camera at spotazores.com to see what the weather is like. If it is foggy - you won't see anything. If it is cloudy, you'll get a moody view but miss the colours. What you need is sunshine - preferably a bright clear blue sky but even mostly sunny does the trick. This makes the water dance, the hills come alive, and the colours really pop. Make sure you know exactly where this turn is. The entryway is almost hidden in the trees and the signs are not great coming either way. Once you turn off the road, don't stop until you hit a proper parking lot with a dead end. This is where to start. Pack snacks and go early. Early to avoid the people - snacks because you will not want to leave.
Easily my favourite viewpoint...
Read moreBeautiful trail to the viewpoint. Once you park, there is an option for the 'official walking trail' - looked pretty as well but we did not have the time. For the trail that we did that goes to the main lookout, you cross the street and enter in an opening next to the metal gates. Go down the main trail - on your left at some point there is an option to go to a small lake (Canario) which was peaceful and nice. No swimming! The rest of the trail is wide and fairly flat. There is some elevation at the very end. This is random, but near the top there is one opening to the woods (on the left if you're going up) that we popped off the trail for and stood in. It felt very quiet, enveloping, and lush. The top is beautiful even when the clouds were rolling in as we watched. In addition to going down the main path (very obvious, lined with a wooden rail), you can also go a little further and sit on one of the smaller...

The miradouro is easily accessible also with young kids (5,6ys or even 2/3ys in a baby carrier). The road is mostly flat and surrounded by amazing green threes. The walk from the starting point is about 10/15 minutes. Only at the very end there is a steep staircase, but safe and feasible.
The road until the stairs is also accessible to cars, but the gate at the entrance is usually closed.
To reach the miradouro: drive until the large parking slot of the “Miradouro da Lagoa do Canário”. From there you cross the road and walk in the street behind the gate. You follow the road and in 15 minutes you are arrived. In the same street you can also take a short downstairs (1/2 minutes) and visit the nice lake do Canario.
View is beautiful and definitely worthwhile to visit, considering also how easy is...
