beautiful place❤️🥰 Drinking Gorreana tea in the Azores was a surprise that immediately won my heart. Each sip was like a warm, comforting hug, a direct connection with the soul of that land. It was more than just tea — it was an experience that brought calm, a pause in time to savor something truly special.
The first thing that enchanted me was the aroma: fresh, subtle, but with a depth that seemed to tell stories. When I tasted it, I noticed the delicacy of the flavors, balanced and smooth, but at the same time intense, as if they carried the spirit of the island — the green of the plantations, the salty air of the Atlantic and the heat of the Azorean sun. Being on the plantation, surrounded by the rows of tea that stretched into infinity, was a magical experience. Smelling the fresh leaves, touching the earth that gives life to those plants, and knowing that everything is cultivated with such dedication, made each cup even more special. I loved this place, for me it became the best place my soul desires to be, and it made me love the Azores a little more. the taste of simplicity, authenticity and natural beauty that defines that place. It is a taste that remains in my memory and in my heart, like a piece of the Azores that I will...
Read moreGorreana Tea Plantation is a must-visit for anyone interested in history, sustainability, and scenic beauty, offering a rare glimpse into Europe’s oldest, family-run tea factory where you can watch traditional production methods in action. With free tours, organic teas, and breathtaking Atlantic views, it’s a unique and memorable experience for both tea lovers and curious travelers.
I had the pleasure of visiting the Gorreana Tea Factory on May 19th, and it was truly a highlight of my trip to São Miguel. It's the only tea plantation in Europe, which is fascinating in itself, but the experience goes beyond just that.
You can walk freely through the beautiful, lush tea fields, taking in the stunning green landscapes. Then, head inside to see the historic machinery still in operation, which is incredibly cool. Best of all, they offer free tea tastings! You get to sample their delicious black and green teas, learning about the process from leaf to cup.
The Gorreana Tea Factory offers a unique and relaxing experience, perfect for all ages. Whether you're a tea connoisseur or just looking for something different to do, I highly recommend adding it to your São Miguel itinerary. Don't miss out on this piece of history and delicious...
Read moreOne of the more touristy places on the island based on the concentration of crowds compared to other, especially natural places we visited on São Miguel. Regardless, this place is absolutely worth the visit even if you are not a tea lover (like us), just to learn a thing or two about tea production and appreciate the tea plantations on the surrounding hills. When we visited (early March) the production was stopped, but we could still see the machinery used for tea production as part of the self-guided tour of the facility. This is one of the two tea plantations on the island, the other being the Porto Formosa tea plantation, which we didn't visit. However, the indoor and outdoor premises are very well maintained and clean, the staff is very helful and kind in answering your questions and a courtesy cup of tea is also being offered. You can also visit the adjacent gift shop to shop for local products and, of course, buy one of the varieties of the Gorreana tea. There is also a small cafe, offering you a place to rest for a while and grab...
