Fábrica de Chá de Porto Formoso
I've been to the factory twice. In both, I saw the film about the process, as well as I visited the factory and in the end I did it in the tea room.
I highly recommend the visit, as it is located in a very beautiful island location.
The tea fields overlook the sea and are a stunning sight.
The tea that can be purchased at the tea room store is very tasty and is drunk very well throughout the year.
The variety depends on the personal taste of each one.
I took several photographs of the space and the fields.
About the factory :
"The Fábrica Porto Formoso is dedicated to the production of tea through the organic production method on the beautiful island of S. Miguel, in the Azores.
The factory has a long history, having been active between the 1920s and the 1980s. In 2001, the current owners gave it new life and the factory now produces four types of tea with organic certification. Porto Formoso teas are obtained from the Camellia sinensis tea plant and include the following types of black tea:
Orange Pekoe: obtained from the terminal bud and the first leaf of the shoot. Pekoe: from the second leaf and has a less pronounced flavor and aroma than orange pekoe. Broken Leaf: results from the third leaf and particles from the remaining leaves. Azores Home Blend: is the first tea of the year and contains all the leaves of the sapling.
Porto Formoso tea is rich in vitamins and mineral elements. But the benefits do not end there. It has antioxidant power due to its high content of flavonoids, which contributes to the reduction of cell aging. Helps digestion and lower blood cholesterol, moisturizes, reduces fatigue, increases alertness and improves...
Read moreDon't miss this lovely little place! It is easy to find, you will see it right from the street. There is comfortable parking, then you walk down to the factory building. It is beautifully situated. We were warmly welcomed and asked if we would like to have a short guided tour. First they show a video about the factory and tea production, after that they show you the actual factory with the different machines. Tip: don't come too late in the afternoon, during the day you can really see them working. The tour closes with a tea degustation, after that you can order different kinds of tea (about 1,20€) in the tea room and also purchase tea. Everything is organic and produced locally. It's much nicer than the...
Read moreReally nice little spot to relax and drink a tea. However there is not much to do there. There is a room where there is a video playing and you can learn more about the fabric. You can also go take a walk in the field where they make the tea grow, you can see it in the pictures. There is also a small garden you can walk next to it and then there is the view from the gallery were you can just sit down and relax.
I would say 30 minutes to an hour you can see everything there is to see including drinking the tea. The price are reasonable and the personal are really nice. The atmosphere is also really quiet and peaceful. It's a nice little stop to do it between...
