Quinta Splendida Botanical Garden — Attraction in Santa Cruz

A beautiful and relaxing garden with stunning ocean views! 🌿🌺 Quinta Splendida Botanical Garden is part of a hotel, but visitors can enter for a small fee (around €4), which is absolutely worth it. The grounds are filled with a huge variety of plants — from banana trees and exotic flowers to many rare and colorful species that make every corner interesting.

The paths are well kept and easy to stroll, with plenty of shady spots under big trees. One of the highlights is the view — from different parts of the garden you can see the sea, which adds to the peaceful and scenic atmosphere. It’s not as large as the main botanical gardens in Funchal, but it feels quieter, more intimate, and just as beautiful in its own way.

Its an off the beaten track garden, part of a very nice hotel, open to visiting tourists. The layout of the complex is unique, the garden has a lot to offer to see, touch, smell. Found by chance as we already visited the "big" two gardens, this was a nice surprise. We spent an hour browsing the paths and ended with a cofee by the pool. Whoever designed the complex did a great job of combining the hotel rooms with nature, in such an unobtrusive blend. Nice end to the holiday. Heerlijk vakantieoord. Midden tussen de botanische tuinen liggen veel appartementen met privacy. Vanuit ons ruime appartement, loop je langs de paden naar het rustige zwembad met uitzicht over zee. Ondertussen schieten de vele kleine hagedissen tussen de planten weg als je langs loopt en vliegen de vlinders om je heen.

Er zijn diverse restaurants op het park, maar ook in het plaatsje zelf met zijn schattige kerkje, die je elk uur hoort met zijn mooie melodie.

Ons 2 kamer appartement is echt heel groot met een keukentje ( alleen waterkoker, dus dat werd oploskoffie). Maar eigenlijk zit je het meest buiten op je eigen terras, te genieten van het mooie weer met het geluid van de vogels en de vlinders die tussen de bloemen vliegen. Er zijn ook ligbedden en badhanddoeken bij de appartementen.

Personeel is erg vriendelijk en komen elke dag je verblijf opfrissen. Ook de paden en het zwembad worden netjes bijgehouden, wat wel nodig is met de vele blaadjes van de Bougainvillea's.

De receptie was voor ons een beetje onduidelijk over het parkeren bij het verblijf, blijkt €6,- per dag te kosten. Maar daar heb je dan wel een parkeerplek vlakbij voor. Men spreekt geen nederlands bij de receptie maar wel oa. engels en duits.

Het weer is steeds aangenaam, niet te warm niet te koud, soms wat wind een klein beetje regen tussen door. Dit schijnt het hele jaar door zo te zijn. Kortom dit is een echte aanrader als je net even iets meer wilt betalen voor je verblijf. Maar dan zit je wel voor je gevoel in een...
