If you want a bit of different experience in Madeira - come here. As by now, zero crowds are guaranteed so you will get your peace and quiet. Beautiful peaceful walk with great views. Be careful and wear some proper shoes (spot shoes are okay) as road is not maintained, some parts dirty and slippery (especially in tunnels). How to come here: park somewhere near waterfall (or anywhere you like, cross the road and go on old road. Walk until you reach tunnels and enjoy beautiful scenery,...

Walking this old road was one of my favourite activities to do on the island and one of the only things I’d immediately do again. The views are beautiful and walking here just feels amazing. Only walk this if the weather is great tho, rain and wind can lead to dangerous rock fall! Other than that the road is easily walkable and hardly any...

Pretty cool old road with some sweet scenery and old abandoned tunnels. Some risk of rockfalls of earthslides but it's a quick and fairly easy walk of just a couple km and you'll likely see 0 other tourists along it, vs the endless stream of tourists stopping to take pictures at the waterfall right across the street from the beginning of...

Very interesting experience, when you pass the two tunnels, at the very front you will find a very long staircase, it takes a lot of time to go up and there’s a lot of stones in the stairs so try to be careful, it requires a little little bit of climbing but nothing serious, at the top of the hill there’s a very old house with very old furniture in it.

Giving one star for attention. A great, scenic and easy (although exposed to potential rockfall) walking route ONLY UNTIL the old tunnels (starting from Sao Vicente). We continued towards Seixal (on very challenging terrain) but had to abort half-way. To summarize: worth a visit, turn back at the tunnels (photo), DO NOT continue to Seixal.
