Unfortunately, I was not impressed, and I am a world traveler and have been too many wine regions. Upon arrival, after a steep uphill drive on a cobblestone pathway, the small parking lot was not properly signed, as there is construction going on. It was confusing as to what pathways to follow. I did not notice any disability friendly entrances. Upon arrival to the main entrance, there were two employees at the cashier, a man and a woman, who were both rude when I ask them questions about our tasting reservation and the different potential options. The wine tasting area is small, but very cute, and of course, with spectacular views, as do most wineries in this region. The only saving grace was our Sommelier, whose English was quite well and seemed very nice and approachable. However, he also did not give too much information about the wines. We were also not offered any food, or crackers, from their menu. As for the wines, they were all pretty basic in the standard tasting (we were not allowed to upgrade or change - and there were only a few other people at the winery- because apparently specific tastings are scheduled at specific times and btw I was not given a choice on which tasting when I emailed in advance). Of note, I made a reservation in advance for a wine tasting with a friend. I hope this...

The worst place in Douro to the agencies and the guides (the real clients that helps them). They prefer to have a lot of people on each visit, even if they have already a group with old people that needs help, and for their guide to stay and help them with the group, they ask for 45 euros for a picnic. Or you just don't pay anything, and stay there, without lunch, doing the work they are paying for: give attention to the clients. Especially the oldest ones. They can have a good wine or products. But that it's not what matters. It's the workers that make the difference. And the owners. And here, something really don't work. They even pick up the phone!

Traveling with a young kid, we knew that visiting a vineyard would be a tricky enterprise, but we decided to try our luck at Quinta do Pôpa because it's size, location and reputation seemed just right.

Our experience was nothing short of perfect. The vineyard is perched high above the Douro river, but still easily accessible by car. The views are incredible and the space is tastefully furnished to make every spot comfortable. A small space is dedicated to children, but it was placed in a way that minimizes disturbance for other guests.

The wine and platters were delicious, the prices fair and the staff went out of their way to make sure that our experience was perfect. As much as we'd like to think that we had special treatment, we saw them treating other guests the same way.

Reservations recommended for visits, tastings and...

Wine tour and tasting, plus the picnic. This small winery is located in a perfect spot. The Douro river is underneath and a lot of beautiful pics can be taken for the memories of the visit. The tour and the wine tasting was a top class experience. A blend of history of the valley, the wine making process and the quinta history specifically. The lady that did the tour was very sweet and professional at the same time. Our only complaint is the picnic basket. I can describe it as a rather poor picnic, because the cold cuts were so few. Three different kinds of cheese and the same for salami, very small cuts to enjoy our wine. Of course there were more containers with a small salad, two pieces of omelette etc.

Absolutely spectacular winery and restaurant. We had their picnic lunch which was meats, cheese, bread, olives, fruit, and a bottle of wine. It was really all you needed for the perfect picnic. And the view from the lunch spots is incredible - you look out from the side of a mountain over the terraced rows of grapes and see the Douro river. Couldn't be better. Make sure you make a reservation though - they don't normally take walk ins. One note - googles directions are incorrect here to here - just go past where it tells you to turn off the main highway and follow the signs to Quinta do Popa. There is a giant metal gate next to the road - you can't miss it.

Amazing, astonishing view!!! 180º view of the river, driving up through the vineyards is already pleasant!!! Picnic ain't worth it, no sandwiches nor salads, just fried "salgados" together with cheese, smoked ham and chouriço. It cannot be considered as a main meal, but a simple afternoon snack. Guided visit at 14:00, wine tasting then starts at 15:30 and picnic at the end, about 16ish. This Quinta has a beautiful story, runs on a family (a very friendly one indeed, all of them!), which makes the visit much more intimate and familiar! Their Porto wine Vintage (2017 or 2018) are a must!! Best one I ever had, and I'm Portuguese!!!!!!!
