The Blue Dragon River, the real name is Odeleite, is a river located in the area of Castro Marim, Algarve, in Portugal. It originates in the mountains of the Serra do Caldeirao. The Odeleite Dam was built between 1992 and 1998 and is the main reservoir for the eastern Algarve. When the reservoir filled up with water the river flow shaped like a blue dragon, due to its dark blue color and unusual curvy shape. It was the Photographer Steve Richards that captured the river flow from above showing the river’s outline is just like a long, meandering blue dragon. In Chinese mythology, a dragon is an important symbol of power and strength!
