Lagoa do Congro — Attraction in Vila Franca do Campo

The Lake of Congro is situated at the bottom of a crater. The surroundings are amazingly green. One can actually get down to the water's edge. There is a short dirt road to the first parking area. There is the official parking lot further in. When we visited, the road was quite hard, without too many holes so it did not cause a problem to the car. Beautiful place to visit. This was our very first stop in the island and we didn't regret this choice. An easy hike down (about 10-20min) and you will be rewarded with a super nice view of the lake. The hike down is nicely done and you won't have to climb or take big steps. We'd recommend coming here a bit later in the afternoon, since you will encounter less people (we came around 5.30pm and were the only once there when we arrived, more people...

Absolutely beautiful. Reviews I saw all said it was magical and I can confirm that it feels magical. There are other people but not nearly as many as you'd find in other places similar to this on Sao Miguel. This will take an hour or less to see and I highly recommend it.
