Lagoa do Fogo — Attraction in Vila Franca do Campo

Update Another visit this time not from the viewpoints but directly from the trails. Just me and nature. Clouds, birds, wind, somewhere piercing blue sky and sun rays. For a few hours no one on the trail. Unforgettable landscape sceneries like from the Lord of the Rings stories and I felt like a participant in the Fellowship of the Ring. Absolutely amazing. Not all trails are available due to bird protection but the one I chose (to be honest part of the section off the trail) was really demanding and treacherous (heavy night rainfall made the ground very soft and there were a lot of landslides). The path to the lake is easy. Further on it is harder but oh so beautiful! ...................... 1st visit. One of the places you must see. Stop and stay here for a while to feel the magic of this place. Photos or words cannot convey what you will experience while being here, standing or hiking the trails. One of my favorite places in the Azores. A must-see. Try to arrive before 9 am - firstly, you will have time to get there by car (after 9 only by bus), secondly, there will not be so many people, after 9:30 the influx of tourists begins. Having climbed to the top, to the observation deck, be sure to stand or sit at least for a short time in silence, without talking to anyone. Look, listen to the mountain silence, feel the beauty with all your senses. This is the place where you can feel with your mind and heart that such magnificence could not have appeared by itself, by chance. Just as a masterpiece of art does not appear in an art gallery by itself just because there is an easel and paints nearby, even after thousands of years. For this masterpiece in nature, too, a Creator is needed. Say THANK YOU...

Bad experience with the bus picking us up at the bottom and nobody being dropped off,making for a very full bus.They gave us 3 minutes at the first view point.We stayed there for about 45 minutes to look at the lake,walked up to the antenas and when the bus came back down,the bus was full and were told to wait another hour for the trip back down to our car.We had our 2 young grand children with us and argued with the bus driver to let us on,which they did after some people stayed at that viewpoint.Seen one local resident arguing with the police woman because he had trouble getting out of his property with all the cars parked around his entrance way to his property. We've been there with our rental car in the past with no problems and would never do that bus...
