One of the most unique and best looking mosques from the inside and out you will ever visit. Doesn’t appear to be busy, even during prayer time (but could be different for Friday Jummuah). Security are super friendly and will direct you towards the place you wish to visit, although this is self explanatory from the signs inside. The prayer area is unbelievably peaceful, with the design almost causing sound to bounce off the interior, giving it a trance-like feel when Quran is being read aloud. The courtyard also looks incredible, with some lovey photo opportunities available.
My only gripe was the inability to call an Uber/Karwa Taxi to the parking area - for whatever reason, (at the time of this review) the pickup point is set automatically to a location around 15-20 minutes away by foot, making you have to walk this distance unless you have a taxi’s number to hand to pick you up from there specifically. It’s supposedly a common issue there according to security, so if you do visit either go at Maghreb time so that the walk isn’t as bad, or ask a Taxi to return to you...
Read moreA truly mind blowing piece of architecture that will blow you away. The outdoor space is beautiful, really loved the 5 pillars below the building Incredible smart design masha Allah But in terms of prayer experience, I can only comment on my experience, and my experience of this masjid is that it is a massive disappointment for women with children and so is no different to most masajid. This masjid aspires to be a beacon for knowledge and learning, yet it has many shortcomings. I can only award it an E for its effort to accommodate one of the most important service users women with children It's unfortunate that there has been so much oversight over simple designs to make the prayer (especially the Friday prayer) accessible Women with children are ushered in to a medium sized room, equipped with headsets for access to an English/Urdu khutba (great for non Arabic but not for Arabic) and the doors are closed so they cannot hear the prayer. Had I known I would not have visited for...
Read moreThe Emiir's mother Sheikha Moza bint Nasser is the co-founder, and chairperson of the Qatar foundation, and as such "drives" this tour, but Shariff was our guide for the day. Shariff is a pleasant, disarming fellow, and all his connections prove handy for getting you the insider look at all the cultural endeavors Education City has to offer; his explanations both informative and interesting. Our focus was in architecture and culture of Qatar, and Shariff tailored the tour to make it fascinating for us. We particularly enjoyed Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, the Arabian horse stables and stadium, Oxygen Park, the Education City Mosque within the Minaretein building; shaped like a giant stingray, and the Qatar National Library with its modern shelving, and ancient Islamic texts. Here Shariff gave me a better understanding of Islam than I'd been able to acquire with weeks of preparation on the internet. This was an excellent educational experience for both mom...
